I was recently bowling at a regional and had to start deep inside on the shark pattern. From the gate I noticed that I was looking at my mark from start to finish but I kept going right of it. At the end of my squad, Shafer told me that I have to straighten my pushaway which can prevent me from spraying the ball everywhere. I meant to ask him if there were any other reason why I was throwing the ball everywhere but I guess I wasnt paying attention. Does anybody know what could be wrong with my swing direction or any other mechanics that I can use to fix this problem?

Without a video it's hard to say, but a bad pushaway direction will lead to a bad position at the top of the swing.  This will force you to "redirect" the ball at the bottom to get it on line.  When you are playing straighter angles this won't be as much of an issue, but inside angles are tough to keep consistent.

I fought this for years because my swing would get outside of my body at the top, this made me miss inside more often than out.

There is more to bowling than just knocking down pins.



Im going to disagree with you here.  It all depends on your body position.  For someone who opens up quite a bit a swing in front of the shoulder can cause them to come too far inside, and vice versa for someone with very square shoulders.  You have to put the ball in a position that makes a good pendulum, or a figure "8".

Looking at some of the guys on tour straighter players tend to start ball over shoulder, but many power players start ball in front of the body.  Wes Mallott, Tommy Jones, Mike Fagan, and PDW all start with ball in front of their body.

Feet, hips, shoulder alignments?  I have to remember to keep all of those square to my target when making a big move.

That is key....if you are square to the line when playing up 5, you have to open your shoulders so your swing stays constant when trying to loft the left gutter cap.
