League "Gambling"
« on: November 20, 2008, 11:17:18 PM »
Ok I am looking for some new ideas for my league. Currently I run:
Handicap Eliminator (approximately: 19 People)
Scratch Brackets (Fill 2-3 brackets)
Cards (14 people)

Run by Others:
Mystery Number (pull a number whoever bowled that number wins-about 20 people))
Strike Ball

This is a Mixed League (2 Men, 2 Woman, but I have a solid core of about 8-10 guys that are willing to throw money around. There are only 9 teams so I am kind of limited but I need something to mix it up. Anything I can run besides hi game? any help is appreciated, Thanks

Strike ball:  $1/ticket, 6 tickets/$5, buy as many as you want.
Pull the ticket in the 2nd game.  Whoever has the ticket has to throw a strike.  If they strike, they win the pot, if not, it carries over til next week. (ours was missed last night for $1591)

9 in a row pot:  $1/week
throw 9 in a row to win the pot.  All strikes must be in same game.

My bag:
Aftershock Pearl (semi-retired)
Boss Solid (hate this ball, but it works)
Rock-On (for sale)
X-Factor (test driving)
Break Pearl (jury is still out)

On the way:
Awakening

I have seen:

30 clean

six-strikes-in-a-row (all in the same game)

3-6-9 strikes ( must bowl a strike in each frame/each game in one set) can go complete season before a winner

Strike Jackpot- randomly(we used a deck of card)select 10 or 12 frames
in a set/night (3-4 frames a game, 10 cards-one game with four cards, 12 cards four frames a game)must strike in the selected frames all three games to win jackpot. Everyone complains when need to strike in first frame of first game or need a turkey in the 10th. No winner, jackpot carries over to next week. I've seen this go almost all winter season long. Can add up to $1000's at a buck per night, Usually ran by the HOUSE... but could be run on the league level.

i play 2 pools in my league, the small one is 10 to enter, 2 each game and 4 for total pin

the big pool is a bit harder to calculate, but basically u bowl against everyone in the pool. this is a bit more risky, bad night could easily be 50 bucks, a good night, 80+

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

Careful of wagering that does not involve skill and relies on chance (such as random numbers).  Depending on your jurisdiction, it could be deemed illegal gambling.  All you need is some hotshot young cop who wants to make a name for himself and the next thing you know the bowling alley is getting raided.

One number mystery.Anyone who donates weekly can win.No skill needed.Hopefully the cops in your area have better things to do than bust bowling pots.
You only draw one number a week
If nobody hits the pot carries over.
If pot is not broken after a set amount is reached or a designated number of weeks has passed draw til broken.

Turkey shoot. 5 Bucks to get in, throw three in a row to get a ticket for the first two games, then in the third there is a drawing winning ticket gets payed all but 5 bucks then there is a second drawing for the last 5. Last year in a mixed league it was about 130 a night.. also can offer multiple entries or a team discount.

Do 2nd and 3rd game jackpot games.By leaving out the first game, you get rid of the fresh oil high game throwers.
3-6-9:in one season at one of the houses I used to bowl at,the jackpot got up to $4,500.00 before it was won by someone.Best part about it was that the guy who won it was NOT a 200 plus bowlerhe was 159 going in that night.
Do "mystery card" doubles.Get your entries and make it an even number.Have the people draw a card.Match the cards and people for your teams.
