Dumb question, but please help.
« on: January 15, 2004, 10:10:01 PM »
As the title says this is kind of a dumb question, but what tool is used to work out the thumb hole.  I have swelling problems and am wanting to get something to make more room for my thumb in the hole and my driller is not always in.  So what would be a good tool to get, I was thinking a beveling knife but then thought it was only for the edge of the thumb hole.

Thanks,

Bevel knife, workout tool, rasp, rough sandapaper, all followed by smoother paper work!

I would suggest the Ebonite work out tool.

I use emery paper cut to fit around my index finger.
If I need to open the thumb up a bunch, I wet sand it.
I put the ball on a ball cup, and my finger in the thumb hole, with the sandpaper wrapped around my finger.
If I need the entire hole opened up, I turn the ball while moving my finger. If I just need one part of the thumb hole opened up, I move the sand paper.

Deadman -- Consider having your ball driller install a Thumbillow or Magic Carpet.  Either of these gives some room for swelling.  --  JohnP

Thank you all for your replys.  I allready to the sand paper around the finger thing (even taped it around a marker and used it that way).  I already use Magic Carpet (Thanks Ron) it is the sides of my thumb that I have problems with.  I will most likely get something like the Ebonite Workout tool, thanks again everyone.
