Over the years, I have learned a lot, SOME of which is still relevant.
I have loved bowling, and I want everybody else to love it too, and the best way to do that is to help them understand it.
Just last night, I watched a lady struggling with a ball way too strong for her. I finally convinced her that what the guy in the shop told her about certain balls being for light oil and others being for heavy oil was a marketing misnomer.
Got her to “ball down†from a Gauntlet and Special Ops (which were burning up 35 feet down the lane) to a Boost, and move into the shot, where it was easier to keep the ball in front of her. She promptly threw a four bagger, shook her head, and asked “Why hasn’t anybody ever told me this before. I thought that ball was just for spares and really dry lanes.â€
Made me feel good.
I love to help folks enjoy the game. The only way they’ll continue to bowl is if they’re having fun, and they can’t have fun unless they understand what they are trying to do, how to do it, and why they do it that way.
Once you see the light come on in their eyes, and they start to “get itâ€, you also see them get even more enthusiastic about it, because now they know what they’re working with, and how to achieve improvement.
