Sarge Easter Grip
« on: February 04, 2005, 09:15:02 PM »
While traveling out of state I ran across a bowling alley and decided to stop by and check it out. After watching some of the bowlers I came across a guy throwing a ball with this type of grip and was kind of confused. You see , he only had med. to slow ball speed and med. to low revs. So after saying to myself over and over again why is he using this grip I decided to ask him. His reply was this. Do to some previous shoulder and wrist injuries I have problems playing the lanes on most normal house shots. I am not able to swing the ball a lot like most people and generate enough power to finish and carry thus my scores suffer so I end up playing more of a down and in shot from the outside. As you know the outsides get pretty dry over the course of the night so I end up using lesser aggressive balls than most people and usually end up with plastic in my hands by the end of most nights. More aggressive balls thrown from that angle tend to overhook or lose power even for me. I try to follow the oil line in but always end up moving back outside to create a little more angle to carry better and stop the over under reaction I get when I start to move to deep inside. My ball driller suggested I try this grip to help control the ball from the dry outside, add a little ball speed and allow me to use balls that are a little more aggressive with a stronger core. The grip did just what it was meant to do. I can now use more aggressive equiptment, stay to the outside and carry and score with the best bowlers in the house. It didn't really take that many revs off my ball as I didn't generate that many anyways but I do have to be extremely accurate from shot to shot.

Just wondering if anyone had seen or heard of this before? Not your usual use for this grip but as the guy said, it works for him.Thanks.

You should try it. I just got a new spare ball and i wanted to try it, also because my other spare ball would hook way to much, and not because it was dry or i was trying to turn the hell out of it(Ball is legal). Went i tryed it i thought i would never get out of it, but it felt Awesome!!. It cuts down on my revs a bit, but the major thing is it changed my axle tilt, it more flater. If you want more info you should talk to BrunsNick.

Sorry Roy, was a bad choice of words. I did mean to say exactly what you said. I was thinking more along the lines of someone who has excesssive and wanted to cut them down would use this grip but you are right, it even works in some applications for the people with lower revs like myself. Sometimes we get caught up in thinking things like this only have a specific purpose for a specific type of person instead of thinking outside the box. I guess I wil chalk this up as an eye opener. Thanks. Might give this a try.
