Lack of concentration...
« on: March 20, 2006, 12:34:33 AM »
I am the league secretary. My first game is usually not my best as I am collecting and counting money. I am usually late on the approach and being hurried by the other bowlers.

Last night, I got lined up. I had the front five. As I was counting my money, I discovered I was $30 short. Being called to bowl, I walked up to the line and let one go. I missed my mark by 5 boards and sent the ball right into the 4 pin, leaving a bucket. My second ball I tugged it again and chopped the last pin off.

Getting back to counting my money, I discovered I had just totaled the cash and checks wrong.

Back to the line, I proceed to string 3 more strikes before a deadly split. This could have been a good game. I ended up with a 220. Two opens and a bad 10th frame.

I don't know what it's like personally but my uncle is usually the secretary for one of the leagues I bowl in and has the same problem.  He usually starts off with a bad first game or if it starts going good and something is wrong with the money he messes up.  Sometimes makes a distraction for our team having to hunt him down while he's trying to get all the money.  I'm sure the money can be more distracting than next to anything when it comes to concentration.  Only fix I know of is not being secretary next year.

In a terrible slump now.  Average is down 20 pins over last year because I can't carry anything.  Not even Dyno-Thane can help.

I'm focused to bowl the second we start the first game, but being the anchor of 5-man team and having to wait for everyone to get their drinks, go outside for a smoke, chat with  the other teams, etc...I get upset, toss it fast and hit the pocket light. Most of the first game goes this way. And the second game while everyone eats between frames. And the third game while everyone stumbles looking for the bar.

Should I just bowl singles??

What goes on between  turns doesn't have any effect on me. Once my feet hit the approach, I think a bomb could go off next set over and I wouldn't notice, unless something flew into my lane. Not saying I strike all the time, but what goes on between , doesn't effect my shot.

Then you should have been with me in Germany. Golf was cut three ways by a runway ! Lights would come on and you better nOT hit your ball. Old F-4's or hueys coming in. Some were Dust-Off's so they were comin' in "Hot"...better duck !

That's where I learned to concentrate. That and a school the Marines have..but that's a different concentration

I'm one that when I start bowling for competitive score I need to have everything in order before I bowl. If I'm responsible for turning in the dues for the league or keeping the final score tally on a recap sheet I'd rather get everything in order before my first shot of competition. I've found that I don't bowl too well when I feel like I'm rushing around to get things completed.
