Do any of you have groupies?
« on: August 04, 2004, 10:19:20 AM »
My husband watches all my tournaments - no matter how painful. He will often tell me that so and so came by, and just wanted to watch me bowl for a while, because they just love to watch my bowling. These folks may or may not talk to me, but they just like to watch.
He calls them my groupies. I call it extreme flattery.
Anyone else have this phenomenon?

We have a PBA Sweeper that bowls every Tuesday night in the summer time at one of the local centers here.  We get around 15-20 bowlers each week and about 5-10 "groupies".  hahaha.  I never thought of them as that, but I suppose they are!  They're all older gentleman who bowl in senior leagues, and many were at one time great bowlers in their own rights!  I think it's sorta neat that they drive there every Tuesday to just watch and hang out with each other each week.  I'm sure they're not there to watch me bowl, but sometimes I pretend they are to make me feel better

I posted something like this not too long ago.. Groupies definitely exist in my arena.  Some guys won't even talk to the lower performance bowlers.  It's bad.  I often watch how they sit back and critique there favorite guy or gals game.  It's cool,  I just don't like it when they ignore the not so good bowlers.  My game is admired alot too, but I'm very humble.  I don't wear my rings much or anything like that.  It's the guys that are groupies who have there own little click that annoys me..  Keep being flattered mumz, because it truly is a compliment.

Are you kidding?  I'm like a God where I bowl!  It only takes a couple of MASSIVE thunderstrikes and the ladies start walking in to admire my greatness!  Redheads, Blondes, Brunettes, they are all welcome to swarm around me and bask in my beauty!  Seems they can't get enough of me!

**Then the alarm goes off and I wake up.

I have it on a much smaller scale because I bowl a bit like Brenda Norman  Usually it's just the pairs I'm bowling next to.  When I get there the ladies will say Oh boy!  We get to watch you bowl tonight (and sometimes I'll shoot 650 and sometimes I'll shoot 450)

there a pro that lives in this town which is very ironic because its in the middle of MN, small town with less than 8,000 people, we love to watch him bowl, and it was a big deal when he made a pba show, fun to watch.

My son has no groupies, I sure won't myself.

BUT we have had folks hang around when he places in finals and leave when he gets bumped out.

Once in ABT he bad to bowl each match of finals, leader kind of jokingly wished my son would win because he'd get bump into next division with a win. Actauuly during semis they were on same pair and that guy rooted for my son to make the finals.

At home, a lot of folks feel Chris should be out there Pro with his skills. Hasn't gotten to point they'd sponsor him. Someone told me when someone is willing to walk the talk with cash, then it's time to go pro. While I worked my intentions were to sponsor him. Mom isn't sane of pyshically when enough to work. Sure wish I'd write my darn book, rather than same some day.

One dude sponsored him one week, he was saying the other night, he feels he should give the guy back his money for the tournament that he lost in. Sponsors would dig that, couldn't lose if guy paid you back later when they do better.

I wish I knew as much about bowling as my son.
He's not a bragger but mom sure loves to share his good times!
