I'm getting ready to shoot a tournament for the first time and I asked what the lane conditions typically are. I got an e-mail saying that the shot is a "flat oil" shot. What the heck is a flat oil shot? Thanks!

A flat oil shot has oil from gutter to gutter and doesn't have a puddle in the middle to hold the ball if you miss to the left. The real question is how long is the pattern, this will determine if the ball will hook off the lane, or skid through the pin deck, and determine what ball you will have to use.
A perfect explanation of what ball to use on what pattern is in this months issue of Bowling This Month magazine.
