Anyone doing the PA State Tournament?
« on: April 30, 2008, 11:18:14 AM »
I went last weekend, April 26-27. I thought the shot was decent. We've had worse. Again, the age old question..."Why does the Team event always take place in the smaller of the two houses, and knowing this, why do bowlers feel the need to bring an entourage making a cramped place borderline ridiculous?"

#1, how was the shot?? oily dry? squad times??
#2, why the many people?? MOST bowlers I know treat it as a vacation. they don't go to try and win. for the majority it is a weekend away from the kids, with the signifigant other, or a group of friends to go out and party.... I know I treat it this way. If I have the series of a lifetime so be it, but I am not going to bowl and nothing else.... some will look at it differently, but not the average joe bowler.... they are there to have FUN!!!!! with the chance to cash..

Going out this weekend and hoping for the best.  As Buzzhead said, it is mostly an excuse to get away for a weekend.  Have some drinks, play a round of golf.  We bowl early both days (ugh) so I have a feeling I might have some head pains...lol

I had fresh oil both times. My Team squad was 4PM and it looked like the lanes were oiled heavier from 8 board to 8 board. No problem getting it back wide. If you tugged a ball though, like at a 4 pin or 7 pin, you were gonna hook past it. The carry was decent. I had a pocket 7-10 to die for. I had 8:30 AM
Singles'Doubles. This house was wetter for me. Oil was put down almost out to the gutters. The carry at Eastway was better, but it was harder getting to the pocket. The line I used at Meadows got me a 7-count missing the headpin at Eastway. I started pretty much going up the boards at 8, and ended up swinging
11 to 8 by the time I finished up. My shot got pretty touchy at the end of doubles. I averaged 214 for my nine games, so I'm happy with that. Doubt I'll see a check, though. Hope this helps.

Also posted in the NE section..

Quick recap since I bowled so bad..

We bowled early both days on Fresh.

Team house started dry and got drier. Outsides would absolutely fly here. Shot was fairly easy, but only one of us really hit it. We shot 3200ish scratch (1050 avg). Both teams on the pair next to us were right around 3400

Singles and Doubles were significantly wetter. However, the outsides were still dry and by the end of practice you could get some bounce. Insides were flooded. If you miss a few left expect to come up weak. Break down around 10, and you can open area up from there to the ditch. Again, pretty easy shot, but only a few of us took advantage of it.

One pair of our group shot 1440ish in doubles. I think 2050 was high of the 10 of us, with 5 more guys in the 1900s and 3 more in the 1800s and me with less than that. The guy that was 2050 lost money in brackets and he didn't have any low games. We had some real ringers in our squads.

Very playable from any angle in team (though they were so dry outside you needed real weak equipment or no hand or high speed to really play outside). You need to start at 10 or further out in S/D and migrate in as you wear them down..

If you bowl 2nd shift team (if it exists..), I wish you luck because there will be nothing left in the heads. If you bowl 2nd shift s/d nothing under 1300 should be accepted..lol Good luck
