Title: Lane conditions
Post by: flalefty on October 19, 2014, 07:30:52 PM
Why are so many bowling centers using either short oil or very little oil.....many bowlers in my league have been using plastic balls to hold the line....When all members of my team complained about it we were told that cutting back on the oil used is done for economic reasons

You have my sincere condolences.
We often complain about the lack oil but NEVER to the extent that we need to use plastic. That's ridiculous and obscene.
May I ask what city/town and state you're in?

During the summer the house I bowl league were testnig patterns this summer. The last winter leagues, bowlers were complain of less hook, more skid, carry down, blah blah blah.... the patter was 40'

This winter, I guess they came to a final oil pattern that'll make many bowlers happier. It's a short 35', low volume (19 units?? I was told), and plenty hook (for those low rev bowlers) pattern. So I guess I'm lucky, I haven't yet gone to plastic. But during practice, the plastic is very usable....

That's because a lot of the bowlers that went to Landpark came from Alpine.

Because a lot of bowlers, seems to be the adults most of the time, complain and gripe when the lanes aren't playing to their favor and instead of adjusting to become better they overwhelmingly complain to the proprietor who has to do something or lose customers.

What ever the conditions on the lane are, just adjust and become a better bowler.

I am on both sides of the fence on this one.

Part of me wants to state: "Shut up and Bowl!"

Then the other side:

"Well if you want my business, give me a shot I can use my newly purchased $200 ball on!"

Proprietors are ones that should be getting the finger wag. Not only did they create the THS. They perfected it!  Now there are some trying to save a few bucks, cutting back on the oil. What I see is the low rev/high speed bowler still scoring. Until bowling center ticks off that group, better learn how to throw hard and fast. Alternative: get a plastic or urethane ball.

I bowl in Phila. in the summer and central Florida in the winter....due to the extreme dry lanes I have seen the past year at both locations I dropped down to a 13lb bowling ball to increase my ball speed.....I am throwing motive venom toxin the first game then have to drop down to natural pearl or grenade.....in extreme dry conditions I will use hammer taboo spare ball or columbia 300 plastic in the third game
