Had my Link (practically brand new) just sitting on the carpet floor for a few months. Took a look at it today. Cracked all the way around from 1 finger hole, to the other one. Never lost a ball before but in the last 2 years I had 4 crack all just sitting on floor or ball rack. Apogee, Gaunlet, Rock, Link. Now all junk. This sucks.

It's hard to figure out why that happens...But I hear this all the time...Ball may be store in a closet or like you said, just on the floor in a room...Usually when this happens, temperature may be the reason...That closet or room could be too hot or too cold...Or both...

One of the main reasons balls crack is due to a rapid temperature change...They went from hot to cold to quickly, or from cold to hot to quickly...

Then we hear about people who leave their balls in the car all winter... And nothing happens to them... Go figure...

But for the most part when a ball cracks, the person says the ball was stored...Maybe in a room or in a closet...

Over the years we have even had a few crack while sitting on display...

Now most companies have a warranty period...Hope your ball was still under warranty...

House is set a constant 68 deg. Balls has not seen any temp change. Just stilling on the floor in the office. My wife loves that.

Weirdly the only ball of mine that ever cracked all the way round was one i hadn't used in months and was just sitting on the ground also... just treat them like a fine wine and rotate them 90 degrees every week or so :-p

I had three or four amf and global balls to crack.I think the reason is from lack of use.Had mine stored on a rack,did not use them for a few months.Balls cracked all the way around.I now use most of them once or twice every month or two.Same company (amf) that I use at a local house I never take out of the back seat,never a problem.

had one crack recently, but that's the first one in a long time. it was one that I carried with me on a limited basis, and saw use even more rarely.

I was picking it up to take it to the shop for a surface change experiment when i noticed the crack. It started at a finger hole and went straight up about 1/2 way around the ball.

Had no roblem getting it warrantied, so I'm not out a ball, but it was only about 6 months old with about 25-30 games on it.

What happens is the three layers of the ball expand and contract. The core is the most dense and heaviest. The core wrap the lightest, and the cover somewhere in between. These three densities are at constant war with gravity. Eventually because of stagnation, one density takes over, and the ball cracks. Usually the weight block actually tries to sink and the pressure makes the ball crack. Its just like an earth quake. The earth has multiple densities and eventually through gravity the crust of the earth cracks. Its not just temperature.

If you store a ball, you need to rotate how it sits once in a while, and occasionally roll it around on the floor once in a while.

I know of 5 900 global balls that have cracked. Every one of them were indoor and one was even in the pro shop getting plugged.

Something about this Kentucky weather I suppose.

Yeah, never ever ever leave a ball just sitting on the ground or on a rack ANYWHERE. They'll crack every time. All my old balls that have sentimental value or something that have been sitting on a rack at my parents house have cracked. It's like letting anything just sit, it almost wears out faster if it's not in use. Nothing wrong with the ball, the manufacturer, quality issues, none of that. Just sitting anywhere will do that to any ball.

One of my balls a storm street rod pearl just cracked all the way around. It is a 2nd drill and the used to be ring finger plug was crack half way around the hole just at the top. Well, the other day I went to look at the ball and noticed a crack 3/4 around the ball starting at where the crack was in the plugged ring finger. And it wasn't sitting in one position for very long as I move my stuff around in my room. But yeah, it stinks that this happens......

Another thing that has been brought up before is dull drill bits creating small stress points around the finger holes or thumb hole. Another thing is beveling the finger holes just a bit to take away the edge. Even with the beveling, some balls still crack and others never have an issue.....

Here's a tip that's worked for me. Put a piece of 1-1 1/2 foam padding in bottom of the box the ball came in and keep the ball in the bag it came in. Should keep cracking problems at bay.
