Lane Courtesy

Question for all of you out there today?  I was talking to a buddy of mine last night about bowling and the subject of lane courtesy came up.  I mentioned that in my Tuesday and Friday night Classic leagues the rule was 2 to the right and one to the left and the unwritten rule was 2 and 2.  He stated that in most handicap leagues the rule is one and one!  I don’t think I could bowl in that environment at least without blinders.  What do the rest of you live with in your leagues?  Thanks

My Tuesday night league is 1 and 1. 2 and 2 simply slows down play too much. FOCUS! LOL! (No, it really can be quite distracting sometimes.)

The league I'm in now is full of primadonna's who think they need 2 lanes each way - and they get huffy if they don't get it!  Every other league I've bowled in has only required one lane to each side.  Doesn't matter to me one way or the other, as I'm not focused on what the person beside me is doing once I'm on the approach.

1 and 1 is pretty much the standard in all handicap leagues, nationwide.  I believe it is also standard in most scratch LEAGUES.  1 pair and 1 pair works if done properly, but most folks don't and thereby take way too much time to bowl a typical 5 man league.  Lately I've been having some issues with seeing folks 2 lanes over - it's my problem (concentration most likely) and I will not ask for 2 lane courtesy.  (BTW, it's properely 1 pair, not 2 lane).

We do 2 lane courtesy in my Tuesday night league, and I think it's a little ridiculous.    The center is only 12 stinking lanes as it is!!

In tourneys, now, it's just 1 and 1 and moves much quicker.

Thats PBA style.  I do in on all my leagues even though some bowlers think that they deserve 3 PAIR distance.  Now that slows it down.

Anywhere from house league to official sport (unless atated otherwise in tournament rules): 1 left, 1 right; free approach; right lane gets priority, or bowlers negotiate off the approach who is going first.

I never witnessed 2 lane courtesy, and I think it slows down everything considerably!

It's been one and one for me since I started. The only two and two I bowled was at the Masters.

Yeah, big problem when you bowl in some "bush" league with players who have NEVER heard of lane courtesy, giving way or simply wait when somebopdy on the next lane is in his/her approach preparation. Cost me some good games, too, and today I tell these people to accept lane courtesy when they play in league. Open play ("moonlight bowling") is another thing, though, even though the arrogance of some people towarsd their surroundings strikes me...

I won't bowl a 2-lane courtesy league. I believe that any good bowler should be able to focus on what they're doing without needing a 2-lane courtesy. Fortunately, my scratch league went to 1-lane courtesy about 5 years ago and has never looked back.

The fastest and most efficient way to do courtesy is PBA lane courtesy. You let one bowler from the pair to the right go, one from the left go, then you go. Then one from the right, one from the left, and the other person up on your pair goes. Then you repeat and you go. Unfortunately it seems to complicated for most people in league, at least they say it is. I don't think that it would be that hard to do for them if they tried.

I've never done that before... but the reason I think it wouldn't work in league is due to the guy (every league has at least one!) who stands there on the approach like a statue for 10 minutes before throwing his ball.

I won't debate whether anyone needs 2 lane courtesy or not, but it doesn't slow down the bowling much, if everyone is there ready to bowl when it's their turn.

In most leagues, the biggest waste of time is waiting for people to mosey down to the approach when they're up.

1 lane each direction is pretty much the accepted standard in leagues around here. There are a few scratch leagues (and in some cases individuals) that want 2 lanes.

Even at the national USBC tournament they request you only give 1 lane courtesy.

The biggest issue in using the PBA courtesy in leagues is that because bowlers are not ready to bowl when it is their turn ruining any rhythm you might get into.

I have bowled a couple PBA events using the pair courtesy. In both cases I found the pace to be excruciatingly slow. Even with 4 bowlers on a pair it took almost 5 hours to bowl 9 games.

Al my leauges like the 2 per side rule. I know 1 guy personally that wont bowl till theres 4-5 pairs on either side open. He was on my team, I was team captian, I warned him every other shot that he cant do what he wants for lane rules. Even though he is a good friend of mine i held a team meeting, explained to him that he has been warned not only by me also but the leauge president, we took a vote and kicked him off the team. He was a riot when he got extrememly mad at the game.

Unfortunayly it's a rough subject and there is no respect out there and all you can do is be patient and expect the worst for most people all they care about is themself bring it up at your league meeting and ratify it to the league rules that way the hacks will know whats up and not run up there like a bull elephant in must disrupting the whole league if you need 2x2 get a grip bowling would be a league death march maybe we should take numbers before we get on the approach LOL [not]
