lane courtesy
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:50:25 PM »
Our mixed league has always been 1 lane courtesy.  A bunch of new teams joined and some of them want 2 lanes. But its in our rules that 1 lane is the way we are doing it.  So this one guy steps up on 41, so I step up on 43. He immediately steps off, stares at me, and sets his ball down.  I just turned back to the lane and bowled.

Same situation again 4 frames later.  This time he steps off, throws his hands up in the air.  His teammate tells him we do one lane here. But the rest of the night he is a jerk and steps off throwing a fit.

if you want 2 lanes, thats fine.  Just dont stare people down and throw your arms up when someone gets onto the lane 2 lanes from you.

Sorry...just venting.

Agreed.

I was practicing last week, on lane 1.  There was this 9-10 year old on lane 3 that would step off the approach every time I set up... Usually parents don't teach their kids lane courtesy at all, but this is a bit extreme in the other direction.

We only do 2 lane courtesy at a very small number of collegiate tournaments, and even when it is a rule, hardly anyone follows it.

yeah, i hate when i am put next to someone who wants 2 lanes during practice.  My mens league is 2 lanes, but its fine since everyone is on the same page.

If your good you don't notice what is two lanes over. If your great you don't care what is going on, your only focused on what you are doing.

I guess if you are use to other sports that involve crowds cheering, out door noises and ect its easier then those who aren't.

Sometimes has to do with how people bowl when they 'jump' somebody that normally wants two lanes.  If you the type of bowler that grabs the ball and runs the foul line, literally passing the the other guy on his way to throwing his shot, yes your are going to be a distraction.  If your that type of player then try and pay more attention.. if your not then at least try wait until that person starts his approach before you start yours, only takes a second or so longer.  PBA bowlers on tour are pretty good and they give pair left and pair right.

because they have too. I bet they bowl good with one lane both side as well.

If you want two lanes...then you should be out on the Tour...however..I will give two lanes to a person as long as they extend the same to me in return AND if it is a rule foretold in advance by a tournament director...if the person that I give two lanes to does not do the same for me..they only get one from me...enough said...God Bless!

I agree one lane is enough. Anything more just slows down play to much.

2 lanes slows down traffic considerably, I would not agree with it. Anyway, if your league rules state a 1 lane courtesy (and this is IMO enough, unless you play high rank tournaments), I'd stick with it. If someone has a problem with it, better play somewhere else, or swallow it and talk about it AFTER league (or before, would be smarter), and discuss it at a league gathering.

I'd accept it even less in training!

Those poor diva souls who can only play when they are almost alone on the lane...

I don't claim to be great, or even good.  But I do like two lanes.  I have a slow approach, and it distracts me when someone two lanes over passes me, on either side.  Probably shouldn't, but it does.  Now, I don't expect anyone to give me more than one lane - that's standard.  But I arrange it so two lanes are clear before I bowl.  I'm always ready to bowl when it's my turn, I sit in the bench area and seldom leave between turns, so I don't slow things down very much.  --  JohnP

Tell him to cowboy up and be a man about it. Just league bowling who cares if you get one or two? I don't care in Tournements if I get one or two never mind a league

last time this happened to me, guy up two down, I step up he backs off, I step back slammed my ball down and told him " I dont know when the hell we went to two lanes, if you need two lanes, find a new league"  His team right away were up telling me to calm down, I told them his backing off was just as annoying as him walking in front of me

Ive done the double jump and as long as everyone is on the same page it works, but come on leagues are entirely different, if you cant knock ten pins down on a house shot without two lanes, you either lack the concentration you need or you really arent as good as you think you are

Isn't that just so much fun to do Trigg, especially because you know you've completely sizzled the other guy and you don't have a care in the world about it.  :applauds:
