While bowling the state tournament yesterday, one guy on the adjoining lane would bowl his first ball, and then stand on the back of the lane, waiting for his ball to return and for me to bowl. I never asked him to step off the lane, but I waited for him to go ahead and bowl his second ball before bowling. His teammates never said anything to him, although I know several of them and they know better.

Also, some people in league will step up to the lane beside you, waiting for you to bowl, and practice their armswing while waiting. My peripheral vision is probably better than many, and I can see this motion beside me. It is distracting. I normally step off the lane and allow the person to bowl.

How would you handle each of these situations.

Yeah, 4 hours is crazy. I don't think I've ever gone past even 3 hours in a regular 5 man league, maybe a few minutes long here or there, but that's insane.

It wouldn't bother me as long as he stays there and doesn't go until I have gone. Some bowlers act like it's a race to get done first, which amazes me. It's really about being a good "neighbor" on the lanes, but to some they wouldn't even imagine that it would bother anyone unless they are politely told so.

I also forgot to note, the two in question were bowers 1 & 3. Bowler 1 wanted two lanes AND gave two lanes BUT also would never throw his first shot until OUR team FULLY finished the frame.

Bowler #3 offered one PAIR courtesy.

Bowler 1 is no longer on our team and bowler #3 has been reigned in and as expected, our finishing time is significantly earlier.

Don't get me wrong, I have a small amount of $ invested in side pots etc too (only like $80-100 per night or so).

I brought a lot of this up in our meeting at the beginning of the season. Some bowlers insist on 2 lanes but they formally cannot expect it. I need one, that is all. If you are expecting 2 and someone walks up on you it is on YOU to back off.

All of this was agreed to and voted on. Amazing how much quicker things get done (again w/no "rush") AND the sun still came up Thursday morning.

1 1/2 lane courtesy. Just pay attention to the amount of time the bowlers around you stand on the approach and time it so you are not walking at the same time.

Our league is one lane courtesy, but 95% give 2 lanes. We have 4 person teams and generally take us about 2 1/2 to 3 hours at the most. And like GTGT mentioned, if you want 2 lanes courtesy, YOU back off. But being that most of us give 2 lanes, I want to bring it up with the league officers and see if there can be a vote for 2 lanes instead of 1, especially since most already do it anyway and we finish in a reasonable time. Either that or I might have to wear horse blinds, lol. It was mentioned by a couple of top bowlers that if you can see someone in your peripheral when you're on the approach in your stance, then you aren't focusing enough. I guess my focus is lacking, lol.

In a semi relaxed league, is it considered uncourteous to grab your ball off of the rack at the same time as another person next to you so you can dry it off while they bowl?

I think it is discourteous, to reach up and grab the ball while the guy is on the approach beside you. Why not get your ball before he steps up.

Absolutely; it is discourteous and worse. You could drop the ball and cause all sorts of distractions.

I love 1 lane courtesy. it is very distracting.

When people stand on the lane next to you waiting for their strike ball to come back to use for spares surprising and irritating for experienced league bowlers!

It allows me that once there is two lane courtesy in a tournament for my scores to soar. I enjoy the more organized approach of tournaments. Thank you to the uninitiated.

If you need two lanes in league you may be taking it a little to seriously imo

on the subject of the OP I would have asked him to get off the approach
