Strange...
« on: March 19, 2009, 02:53:59 AM »
I went to Toledo this weekend to bowl in a tourney.  Did pretty well, shot over 2000, ended up making a little over 200 dollars profit in brackets and such.

Anyway, about 5 or 6 times, I literally got stuck on the approach.  Seriously, I just couldn't move my body.  It was the strangest situation I have ever encountered.  I really don't know what to say in regards to what I was thinking, but I couldn't get myself started.

Has this happened to anyone else before???

It's a mental thing, similar to the yips in golf.  A standard routine can help, but I'll bet you already have one.  Try thinking just about your first step, concentrating on the leg you start on, then continuing -- right hander with a four step approach:  Right (and begin step and push away), Left, Right, Slide.  --  JohnP

Yeah it's mental,

I remember when I used to goto school, and had the summer off, and came back I would forget how to write my name. I would just be sitting at the desk staring trying to remember.

A few qestions for you:

Did this just start?

How old are you?

Have you taken any time off bowling?

Have you had any head injuries lately?

Are you epileptic?

Pedimaul seizures cause you to lock up for a few seconds. I used to have them when I was younger. The teacher said I would be writing and stop in mid word just staring at the paper, then pick up where I left off.

JohnP,
Yes, I surely do have a routine.  It was just strange, I was thinking about my approach and was very committed to my shot choice.  I really don't know.

Eric,

Did this just start? Yes for the most part, just this past weekend, however last night it didn't happen once.  After thinking back, I can remember it happening a while back, but it was only a couple of times.  That was years ago.

How old are you? 37

Have you taken any time off bowling?  No time off at all.

Have you had any head injuries lately?  If you ask my wife, she might say so, but nothing I know of.

Are you epileptic?  Actually, when I was a teenage I had two seizures.  The doctor's could never figure out why except for the fact they thought the lights on the video games I was playing caused them.  Haven't had anything since.

I know it is just a mental thing, but it was just strange.  Hopefully it goes away and doesn't come back.

But for S&G's you might want to keep a small log of when it happens.

Father time.    I love it.  Very true though.    Oh, I have this strange experience in the back of my head.  On second thought I better write it down.  Getting old is hell.
