Title: Lane issues
Post by: 12XSECH on October 28, 2015, 04:56:04 PM
AMF house...That should say it all but I'll explain...Good bowlers cannot score here. The only people that are bowling decent are the high rev / high speed guys and the straight bowlers. Usually I can figure out a sport shot or a modified shot but this is not a shot. It seems to be the lane machine doesnt clean the backend. There is no back end reaction unless you have very high revs like the 2 handers or the no thumb guys. I used the Guru Master, no luck, Warrior, no luck, Tag, no luck. I played every line possible..Up 5 and it stays outside, up 10 and it hits the 3 pin, move inside and try to swing it and nothing comes back. Only if I throw it 11 or 12 MPH do any of the balls have any movement. Oh, the Jackal had the most movement but it was like split city. I bowl in 3 different houses and never had this issue before. I cant tell where the oil is, the balls dont come back with much on them either. Now the question is...Do I need something stronger then the Tag but weaker then the Jackal? Im med speed, med revs, last year avgd 218 at one house and 207 at another. My feeling is that they dont strip the lanes so I need something  to cut threw oily back ends but not burn up before it hits the arrows...Any suggestions?

After you've played around, looking for the sweet spot...You'll know if she's dry or wet, and sometimes you have to play her like she's tight.

ok, I'll turn this into a legitimate discussion. from 2003 - 2009 the house that I was bowling at back then rarely stripped the lanes and so the lanes played oilier than they would otherwise. I was actually able to use a Visionary Midnight Scorcher at the box condition some nights...not for much more than a game..but at the time I was really scoring well with my Visionary Purple Ice Executioner on the condition...it was at 600 grit(which is the box condition) and then I had beans secret sauce on it...and I was locked in on that condition we had back then...so if you have something similar to either 2 balls--which to my knowledge no other company has developed anything quite like them --then you'd be fine...if not try and find either ball.

I was just reading on BBE why so many posters have gone from this site to BBE because of crap like this.  The OP posted was looking for advise and all he got was the child like responses (other than bcw1969's).  I am fairly new to this site, but I guess what I read on BBE is true.  And don't tell me to go join BBE if I don't like it, I already belong and I don't see these type of responses to a post.

I'm on BBE and there is almost no one there. So what you read is bogus. However, it IS pretty tightly moderated.

Lol! At least I didn't come on here complaining about a house shot and wonder why my high end oil equipment won't work. Why don't you sign up for the bowling clinic the proshop puts on and Leon and I will teach you. For a fee of course.

Lol! We actually teach them so they will improve and enjoy the game. Also what ball will work on a given condition. By the way that critical theory I got from you awhile back works great for my girlfriend.

The Critical is an awesome ball. Glad to hear she is getting good use of it.

I think most of us are on both sites. You have to keep in mind, there are only a few of us bowlers who even know how to read.   ;D

I also used a Wrecker and Manic on these lanes with the same results...Ball skids on backend...So I didnt use all highend oilers. Like someone else said...These are dry lanes that play like heavy oil....Its because of the lack of maintenance. BUT when the bigger league comes in on a different night (30 teams) the lanes are set up properly. I subbed in this league and the conditions for them and us are night and day.

Just a couple of comments. First, generally speaking when you are having major problems with a condition it is not likely you will find a ball that makes a huge difference.  More specifically for this type of condition the first thing to remember is that if you don't have back ends there is nothing that will let you open them up and give the swing you want.  As a low axis rotation, low rev guy I would look for something clean in the dry heads.  Needing or wanting to head belly a ball is the killer.  Find something that gets through the heads, try to play more end over end and try different angles.  You may find something anywhere from way out to way in.  The key to way in is not over swing.  Us old guys talk about looking for a fall back shot.  That may or may not be available on the condition you are playing, or you may not be able to play that type of shot, but the key is keeping the ball in front of you ( the new buzz phrase ).

I have a couple of other options to also consider.

1) if you have an older reactive that you don't use on a regular basis, take it down to 380 grit and try it.  The lower grit may work.

2) If you have an old urethane ball, same thing, take the surface to 380 or 500. I used to keep an old Ebonite Nitro in my arsenal when I bowled in this one house because at least once a year the lane machine would screw up and not strip the lanes.  I still have the ball, just don't carry it with me all the time now since I stopped bowling there.  The urethane ball will roll sooner on the pattern at that grit and may have a better reaction than what you see now.
