Coaching Summit in Texas
« on: June 15, 2011, 08:54:02 AM »
Is anyone going to the coaching summit this year?  I have decided not to.  I have been trying to justify the cost and the value.

Smash,

IMHO the economic condition around the country just doesn't justify spending airfare, hotel accomodations, rental car, Bowl Expo registration, coaching clinic fees, etc. etc.

I would guess that Bowl Expo attendance will be down this year. It is a shame, because I'll bet that the Women's US Open would be great to experience in the Dallas Cowboys' stadium.

This year, I will attend a local distributor's trade show, and try and keep up to date with the latest products and clinics through them.

That's my opinion also.  I drop well over $1500 a year not including some minor things.  It's getting very hard to recover any of that money.  For the amount of time I put in and the money it has to really start paying back due to the economy.  I do this partially for a living and it is really tough.  For those that do not bring in what they spend it has got to be really bad.  I write off somethings but even still.  The last summit I went to in Vegas was really disappointing.  The only thing I remember was body types of elite athletes?  Other than that there wasn't much and that wasn't high on my list of things to do.  There was one guy in the class that asked " I am a youth volunteer coach.  This stuff is very expensive. How am I suppose to afford this and my center doesn't pay anything?"  That is a good question.  My question is since we do this for the members of BPAA and USBC, how are they going to change the environment so that we can continue doing this?  Seems they get a free ride in many cases and many could careless if coaching even exist.
