Yes. Some lane oils are better on certain surfaces. Lane surfaces have different hardnesses. Lane oils come in different viscosities and lubicities(slickness). The kind of lane oil used is mostly dictated by the type of machine used to put it down and clean it off. You cannot use high viscosity oil with a wick machine for example. As far as lanes go, the harder the surface, the less the ball hooks. On hard surfaces like synthetics, you need an oil that doesn''t carrydown badly. On softer surfaces like guardian or wood, you can get away with a little more carrydown. With wood lanes, the type of finish comes into play as well.
