Lane Oiling Question

At what time should the oil pattern be put down prior to the start of league play?

Immediately before, 1 hour, 3 hours, the day before???

Provided there are no open bowlers on these lanes and the temperature is controlled properly, what can happen to a fresh oil pattern sitting on the lanes for 3 to 9 hours?  Or even overnight?

Every time I've bowled on a shot that got put out the night before it hooked quite a bit more.

Thanks for the link and info.  The house in question has a Brunswick Authority 22 machine and I'm not sure what type/brand of conditioners they use.  Another house I used to frequent had a Kegel machine and I'm guessing they used Kegel brand conditioners/products.

I'm not sure what time they are putting the pattern down as I've never seen them do it.  The usual answer I get from management is we just did earlier today right before you got here.   ???

I think the key here is consistency.  In most cases the 15-30 minutes allows the oil to stabilize and bond better with the lane surface, so that should be a minimum amount of time before balls are rolled, but longer would likely even be better. 

Lane conditioners are primarily mineral oil based, which doesn't evaporate, so if it were me bowling on it every week I'd love to see an hour pass between oiling and bowling if it were possible.

Overnight the oil seems to settle in and the pattern plays slicker. 15 minutes before, the pattern doe not hold up as well and hooks more in our house.

45 minutes before the start is the best time IMO.  Hard to achieve b/c if you oil lane 1 and go thru 32-lane 1 sits for and hour and 32 sits for 5 minutes--if you start league right after.  As far as what happens to oil sitting on the lane--drop a 'droplet' of water on a flat surface--it will be rounded and small, come back 6 hours later, it has flattened out.  The same thing happens to oil if left over night on the lane.

Thanks, flattening out is something I suspected.  As well as spotty or over/under reactions.  I make a 1 or 2 board adjustment and get a 10-15 board difference when it gets to the pins.  Frustrating and challenging, especially trying to pick up crucial spares when they are routine at any other house besides this one.  Going to try straight spare ball at all spares instead of just the 10 pin.
