Title: Lane Play and Drilling: Beaten Path
Post by: Bowl_Freak on November 25, 2013, 09:58:08 PM
Will be bowling on this pattern this weekend. Just want to get an idea on best strategies to attack and what layouts work best with what surfaces. I'm a tweener around 16-17mph low-med revs. Currently throwing Higgs pin under ring stacked and a Perfect pin above right of ring stacked. Also have Reax Pearl pin above bridge, mb on VAL.

I've bowled on the beaten path several times over the last few years, as our state tournament is bowled on that. I'm normally about 17 mph, 375-400 revs. I've found at my normal speed pin down balls have worked very well, depending on the backend friction of the surface you're bowling on. If you've got nice backends I've had the best luck with those.

I have however, bowled the best when I slowed my ball speed down and used the pin up stuff. That may just be coincidental though. All the beaten path has taken for me is a couple board move to the right (I bowl on a pretty heavy-ish ths regularly) and maybe slowing it down a little and I'm all set. I've grown to like this shot quite a bit.

As far as how to attack it, I've had the best luck throwing medium strongish equipment and playing outside. I've seen success from all different angles though, and once your stuff starts jumping on you, don't be afraid to move in and bank it off of that dry with something a little more aggressive. Good luck and enjoy!

Matt

I'd have a plan, but I don't know that I'd stick too hard to it.  I've always found that no matter how prepared I was for something, it's always going to be different and I'm always going to have to adjust something, so I'd just rather go into it blind and figure it out when I get there, that works out better for me.

Although I did offer up my experiences with the beaten path, I agree with gizmo. I went into that pattern blind each time I've bowled on it, and adjusted according to what the lane told me to play each time. Have fun.

It IS nice to at least have an idea where to start though . . but lol I always screw myself if I try to stick too hard to a plan.
