That's ridiculous. Bowl your best each night, and if your teammates have a problem it's probably jealousy. Were they complaining when your scores were so high?
The fact is that even if your average drops some, high average bowlers tend to be great spare shooters, too, which often makes or breaks you in a handicap league.
There's also the psychological effect it (high avg.) may have on your opponent. Although I'm not intimidated anymore, I used to be so impressed with the higher average bowlers that I'd try too hard to keep up with them and end up bowling less than I should have had I relaxed. Just my .02.
