We are having our lanes resurfaced tomorrow, just a regular resurface.
I was told that they will not be able to oil them again for about 2 weeks.
Ive only been bowling for a short time so Ive never come accross this before so I was wondering what is the best course of action for this time.
Is it to use something like a spare ball and still try to throw a hook or will the ball just roll out.
Or just throw straight through the back of the ball with more overroll.
Id like to know because I can leave my oil balls at home and take an extra spare ball that does have a nice shape on fairly dry lanes.
Thanks in advance, and I know its all want with me at the moment.

Thanks, but I have no choice

Its the only lanes I use and I have 2 leagues there.
UK is a little behind the USA.
Oh well at least my bag will be a little lighter for the next few weeks!
They may be just pulling my leg a bit, it has been known!!!
They are wood lanes and they are having them sanded back but I only got half the story I think.

we had our lanes resurfaced a month ago. we were told that we could oil as much as we wanted, but you cannot strip the lanes for two weeks, except for the back ends, which can be done after a week.

I can understand the "no stripping" for 2 weeks, while the polyurethane cures out.....but I've never heard of "no oiling" for 2 weeks after a major resurface job! Around here, the wood houses are typically back up and running (with oil on the freshly resurfaced lanes) 24 hours after the polyurethane is applied to the lanes.

It sounds like you only got part of the story on the resurfacing job. Typically, wood lanes are resurfaced every 2 years or so.....this involves removing the old polyurethane surface, sanding the lanes down, removing lane oil from the wood (where it might have soaked in), repairing any major dings in the wood surface, and then applying a fresh coating of polyurethane to protect the wood.

The primary function of lane oil is to protect the lane surface from excessive friction. The last thing that a center would want to do with freshly resurfaced lanes would be to send bowlers out there without any oil on the lanes.

Thanks everyone I think I did only get half the story as it was just as I was going out of the door when one of my friends mentioned it to me.
His brother is on of the lane men and if Id have had time I would have asked for a fuller explanation.
I think rexb and 10 in the pit hit the nail on the head.
I think Ill take my usual balls but leave out the mid oil and take an extra old light oil ball just in case.
