I grew up in a brickhouse. Here's what I used to do. I found that short pin to pap (say 2 inches) with the cg kicked in (So, like a 80x2x55), and a smooth rolling symmetrical core (Ball in this case was a Tidal Wave) with decent surface (Nowadays, maybe 2000 grit) worked great. Started early, got the weight block to lay down, controlling the middle of the lane, and could watch the moves as the night went on. Now, for the nights you need something that gets through the heads, something like a Slingshot or the like, with just a little surface. Weak cover, with a stable roll. In that case I used to use something like 30x5x40 with a hole on the pap. Gets down the lane, and stops at the pocket, rolling through the pocket.
YMMV
