Rev,

Man, it does seem like people are being ball busters lately. I'm on your side. I've never been in an 80-lane center. There is one up where I used to live that's like 45-50 lanes, but that's the biggest that I've come across in these parts.

Rev PS,

I know of one 88 lane house here in New Jersey, USA - Carolier Lanes, North Brunswick, NJ, where the PBA will hold their 63 U.S. Open tournament, Feb. 12 - 19, 2006. (not too far from New York) ((could be 86 or 87 lanes, I forget now. They don't rent golf carts that go that far; the battery dies first. ))

I currently bowl at an 80 lane house in S Jersey.
When bowling was at it's peak, in Willow Grove, PA they opened a
124 lane house during a week night it was full. They had 6 desks and you could not easily see from one end to the other.

The lanes were dismantled and shipped to Japan to build a shopping mall.

Thunderbowl in Allen park, MI is/was 94 lanes.

Imperial in Mt. Clemens, MI has over 80.

Cloverlanes in Livonia, MI is 64.

Nortel Lanes in Monroe, MI has 66.

There are at least another 3 or 4 centers in MI that have 60 lanes.

Several centers in Vegas are greater than 60 lanes (Coast Properties and Station properties).

So there are still many centers throughout the US that are 60+ lanes.

They'll have something like that in little ol' Smyrna, Tenn., (population: 25,000) if things keep up.

They had a 36-lane house, and it was stuffed all the time. So they added 16 lanes this fall to up it to 52 lanes. It's still stuffed. I just left there a couple of hours ago; 6 p.m. on a Saturday night, and I'm No. 15 on a waiting list when I first went in there. Un-friggin' believable.

The reason they're so crowded is that for Rutherford County, which now has 150,000-200,000 people, there are only two houses. Either Smyrna Bowling Center is going to have to expand again, or someone could make a killing opening a third house. It's nuts.
