Week 2 was not a pretty sight.
It was on the Viper pattern. Being shorter I thought the lane would hook more and it did. I tried several different lines/balls in practice and the first game and managed to shoot a small 170. I finally found that I could move deep with my feet, use an aggressive ball, keep my ball speed down and found a good reaction but my carry wasn’t good, a split open, 4-10 pins and 2-8 pins later I finished with a 183.
But I didn’t feel bad about how I played the lanes and others were struggling.
We then had about a 15 minute wait to get started on the second set after switching lanes.
Of course I tried the same line I ended up with on the previous pair and watch as the ball slide straight into the gutter and then moving my target and feet right I filled it out with a 6 count split. To make a long story short, 6 splits, 2 washouts, 3 balls, later I ended up with a nifty 108. I was laughing a little at myself at the end of the game.
I finally settled on using a very tame ball and pointing at the point with little hand just to keep the ball in play and shot 189 the last game.
The second pair was totally different than what we were on at first. I don’t know if it was the pattern, lane bed or who had bowled on the pair before us. And without any practice balls to see the difference in pairs it got brutal.
Another learning experience.
