Disappointed in myself, first night of leagues
« on: August 29, 2006, 11:56:19 PM »
It started out ok, I threw a 179 and a 177 in the first two games.  These are good scores for me, not great, but right around what I think my average should be at 180.  I was throwing the ball really well, but I was having problems with overreaction, and I'm still getting used to the Vibe as far as a smoother ball I maybe should have been using earlier.  In the third game, though, I really let myself down.  I felt like I couldn't seem to grasp the transition, and spent much of the game going through the nose.  I had four splits in that game, and to top it off I flagged two ten pins, and ended with one of my worst games of the year, a 136.  It's a little depressing since I worked so hard over the summer and felt really good about my game.  I guess on the bright side my average will start around 164 and I'll be able to work my way up from there.  One problem I had over the summer is that I started WAY too hot at a 196 average, and it was all downhill from there.  I'm going to go in for another lesson and try to work on my spare game religiously.  Oh well, I'll get em next time!

I'm not a bowler, but I do play one on Ballreviews.

Don't feel so bad. I shot a grand 456 on a 35' sport shot last Wednesday and my book average on THS is 205.

Yeah work on the spares, that's step one.  How did the VIBE work out?  You said that you were still getting used to it?

You may score higher than me, but you are a better bowler than me.

Do not think too long about it. It is history. The 1st league start always puts some extra pressure on the game (hopefully I won't witness it myself this evening with my house league's 1st start) and expectations are high, so even easy things like single pin conversions or the occasional 10 pin goes sour, rising tension even more.

Do not get caught in a downward spiral. It was just the 1st outing, and the season is long with much more to come. You made room for improvement
Leave it behind and look forward - sound to me as if the lane chenged dramatically in your last game and you just stuck too long with your line or ball? You know what you achieved in former times under pressure. Think positive, stay alert on the lanes and everything will work out much better
