release problem
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:25:33 PM »
alright, thought id post here for some opinions.

I've notice that when im doing well bowling, im getting good lift with my fingers and good rotation. When i am struggling I can see that my problem is I'm not getting enough lift with my fingers. Being a lower rev bowler, i dont usually get the benefit of having alot of pin action, so when im not getting enough lift my shot-making can dramatically decrease.

I'd like to see if anyone has some opinions or thoughts of what I could do for when I'm not getting enough lift on the ball.

That's IMHO not true. What you "need" is a good revs/speed ratio, and equipment that saves enough energy for the end of the lane.
I guess that you have a tension/timing problem - becoming stiff under pressure and steering the swing and release subconsciously. I tend to suffer from that under pressure, too, and it is hard to shake everything off and play relaxed, just as in training. IMO a mental thing.

On the executional side, you can try to experiment with a more cupped wrist or conscious effort to impart lift with the fingers - but if you tend to grab the ball under certain circumstances, I'd rather try to work on the mental side of the problem.

A question for the experts on this so hopefully we can all learn.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't lift bad?

Forgive me if I'm mistaking "lift" with what you really meant.
