Let me see if i can get close for you, the following assumptions are to be considered in this explanation, Same cover, Same RG, Same Diff and Same drilling (lets use 5 x 45 x 45)

1) The Asy. ball will retain more of its flare potential than the Sym ball.  Sym balls reduce flare by proportional moves of the pin.  (i.e.: a 5 " pin will reduce in theory a Sym balls flare potential by approx 50%)   Assy balls will not reduce the flare as much.

2) Also a assy ball tends to have a more defined hook shape based on its drilling.  Sym ball(s) tend to retain energy a bit longer and is usually slower reaching its PSA, most of the time it is the Thumb hole where as on a Assy ball it will the Mass Bias.

I have one of both and in general the Assy ball flares more with wider seperation between the flares and is a bit stronger where the Sym ball has tighter much closer rings and it is usually a bit longer and later recovery than the assy counterpart

There's an article written by Denny Torgerson on this topic in a recent Bowling This Month magazine. To summarize overall reaction, his opinion is that the symmetric core would hook later and more sharply while the asymmetric core would hook sooner with a smoother shape.

From there, IMO, the article goes down hill quickly.
