cc,
FWIW I'm inclined to side with pinbuster.
While I like Kelly and the way she throws the ball and other things about her game, this may have been her "Year of years". In the past, she has only shown glimmers of the things she seems to be capable of, but you can say that of manny people, both male and female. This year she has put together performance, luck and bad luck of opponents in a bizarre set of circumstances, to say the least.
Yes, several women have bowled much better than she has, over extended years, including Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Wendy MacPherson, Carol Gianotti, and Lisa Wagner.
The only tournament that doesn't seem to fit in either the She's-too-good or she's-just-not-that-good categories is the PBA Tournament of Champions. Like many have said before, it takes skill and luck to do that well in this special tourney. In this one, she rode a special level of skill, determination, mental focus and grit to the win. There may never be another tournament like that, EVER.
Only the next few years will determine whether this year was her coming into her own, or just a special set of circumstances, never to be repeated. Either way, she has earned her way into the bowling history books.
