League fees
« on: May 04, 2012, 06:15:20 AM »
I wonder what most pay in league fees? We had our payout last night and we pay in $13 a week for 35 weeks which is $455. We got back in total $117. We pay our treasurer fees out of pocket the first night of around $5 a man. The secretary gets free bowling for the season.

We were 1 or 2 in total points, had the third highest game and so on. I think they told me the house gets $8 a night out of the $13. Oh, its a 12 team league going down to 10 next year.

Payouts are payouts no matter what the league pays in fees.  You all saw the prize sheet suggestions after four or five weeks and voted on them, right?  You knew what was coming so there shouldn't be any surprises.  Leagues have to decide early on if they are going to make it a "winners' league where the top team gets the lion's share of the money or if they are going to spread it around and take an "everybody gets a trophy" stance.  Speaking of which, do you give out a lot of trophies?  Do you have a banquet.  Those will suck prize money but a banquet is a nice thing, in my opinion.

My league we pay $30/week for majority of season with a month or so of $35/week so each man of a four man team pays $1000.  24 teams.  But win the first half, second half, and overall standings and your team walks away with $15,000 as each is worth $5000.

My trio league we pay $15 a week with $12.50 going to the house for lineage (4 games). We got back $63 (2nd in total points won).

In my 5 person classic league we pay $17 a week. It has added money (I believe $5k). Don't know the lineage fee but I believe it is around $10 for 3 games.

We ended up 5th in the league and got $300 a man back.

I don't think this happened. Most leagues in my area don't do this. They should, but most league bowlers I know don't like to discuss or vote on changes. Yet you hear all that complaining at the end of the year. So when the idea is brought up to those that complain and you tell them to get involved.....they just dissappear and want to keep things the same.

$20 per week, around $12 for lineage, around $1 for treasurer, and another $0.25 for special awards.  I think I walked away with about $100 and was in the bottom 6.   I believe this was the first year that they voted for a more even distribution.  I think after the first 5 spots the payout only went down around $10 a person, leveling off at 16th place (out of 24 teams).

That's crazy to bowl in a league that doesn't follow USBC rules as far as appointment of prize committee. How do you know where the league fees are going? The committee has to submit prize payouts for the teams to vote on! Doesn't your league nominate league officers?

+1.  Never ceases to amaze me how naive some bowlers are.  Maybe dis-interested is more like it.  They just expect the league to run itself and the money to be there at the end and can't be bothered with the "nuts and bolts" unless they feel slighted in some way.   :o

You pay $1 per night per bowler for the Treasurer ?  Can I be be the Treasurer next year ?
