I'm trying to come up with a competitive, maybe scratch league to pitch to the local house. Just an 8-10 week league would be fine, probably end up being an every other week league, as the association is small, and we would have to pull players from nearby cities.
Was kind of thinking something like a 4 person scratch, average limit on the team from yearbook averages being around 820 (Make better bowlers grab some 170's bowlers.
$20 a week, for ease of calculation, say lineage is $10. This would put 2,560 into the prize fund with 8 teams for 8 weeks.
pay out per team:
1. 1000
2. 500
3. 250
4. 250
5. 180
6. 180
7. 100
8. 100
no "pin" money, just place money
Scoring be 1 per head to head game, 4 for team game, and 6 for team totals.

You might try a draft league. You get all interested bowlers to sign up so you can get their averages. The first night you decide how many teams their are and for example if their are 8 teams, then the 8 highest book averages are captains. They pick in reverse order from the remaining bowlers like the NFL.
They can draft their friends or go for the highest remaining averages.
I have also heard of a league called a position round league. Because every week is position round. First place always bowls 2nd etc. I've heard that this actually helps even out leagues as one the top teams must lose in a position round matchup every week and the lower place teams must win so that at the end of the year most of the teams have pretty even records and are battling for the championship.

I'm currently bowling in a scratch draft league in Richmond, Va and it's a blast. The shot is heavy and challenging so it's not a race to 300. Sponsors have gotten involved so money ist coming in and it's not up to just the bowlers to pay in. It's great to let the bowlers involved come up with some of the ideas for the league. Get an idea of what's ppopular and what they want to bowl on.

Don't know if this works for a short season, but one of the best leagues I ever bowled in was. 36 league team. Full season, Peterson points. Best part was the "playoffs". Top 6 teams bowled step ladder format, house was good enough to let us bowl Friday and Sat nights. Great energy and entertainment for all to come and support
