PBA Don Johnson Oil Pattern

I've seen a few regionals that have used this oil pattern. Any observations or strategies for this?

We bowled on the Don Carter pattern, but not Don Johnson.  We had 16 patterns this summer, but that wasn't one of them.

Is not the Don Carter a 50-foot flat pattern that plays like a long Cheetah pattern?

Don Carter is 50' (24.85 mL), but it plays like Badger, not Cheetah.  There is no outside shot on Don Carter.  Most people started with something pretty strong throwing pretty straight near 12/13.  Some of the heavy handed guys could start further in, but my ball was a dart from there on the fresh.

Don Johnson is 45 feet.  Bowled it last weekend.  It's pretty playable.  You can play 15-10 and be fine, just chase it left when it starts to break down.  Anything outside of 8 is out of bounds, pretend the gutter is there.  Threw a marvel-s for the first 4 games, then switched to IQ solid.  Saw lots of marvel-s and hyper cells being thrown.

Not familiar with either pattern, but I love the trend to longer patterns.  I think it forces guys to be better shot makers, at least initially till they blow the pattern up.  Us seniors really like the long patterns because we tend to attack it in the track area, and  gradually move in as the shot breaks down.  Just like 40 years ago.
