does this make sense?
« on: February 05, 2004, 11:13:52 PM »
One thing that has always bothered me is bowlers who instead of blaming themselves when they bowl bad, blame conditions or what not. There is a left hander in the league i bowl in who if he cannot play 15 out to anywere he considers himself locked out and the lane man did it on purpose.

He was complaining about being locked out the night i shot 797(i am left handed also) and another left handed shot 597 FOR TWO GAMES.

After a night in one of our leagues he was complaining about being locked out and shoot 660 and i finally spoke up and simply asked him why whenever he's "locked" out there are many lefties who shot well or even himself who shot well and averaged 220 on the night. I shot 680, 3 other lefties went over 660 and the shot to him was unplayable.

So he retorts my comment with saying he will bowl me any amount of money any time just bring my checkbook and we will bowl for as long as i can take it. He goes on to say how im just a terrible bowler and stuff like that. I really don't care much what he thinks, so i just go on my way.

I'm talking to my friend that friday after league, they have 10 dollar super brackets there but i had gotten there late and didn't get in any. This guy came up to me and asks me what i shot last game, i tell him i shot 267 and he was like damnit i put you in 3 brackets because i saw you weren't in any, and they were winner take all and some guy shot 279 so i didn't make anything.

I was just stunned, why would someone who was attacking my talent level and how i stink as a bowler forking up 30 dollars to bet on ME? it just didn't make any sense whatsoever.

any thoughts on this? i just thought this was really messed up

ONe possibility for why he did it could depend on possible matchup potential.

I will give you an example.  About 3 years ago, i put a guy in backets who really wasn't that good, and was about a 195 average.  The guy had high ball speed and no revs.  Well it so happens the city house that year ran a short pattern with the most backends in the city.  Absolutely the perfect matchup, so i threw him in all the handicap brackets, and he proceeds to shoot 2150 for the 9 games.  He wasn't that good, but on that certain condition he is.  Its all in knowing how to create positive matchups.

I dont know all the exact circumstances, i only skimmed through your post, since speaking about city, I will be leaving here in about 10 minutes to go and bull my city tournament.

Hi Game,

Actually, it's a compliment, whether he admits it or not.  He's acknowledging the fact that you're good or better then him, why else would he put his money on you?  The crying could just be a personality flaw for those with issues and have no other way of venting.  Challenging someone to bowl for any kind of money is a typical "macho" defensive behavior, seen it too many times.  I've been bowling pot games too long.  Addikbowler had another guy who won't leave him alone...haha. (see post: new league, new @$$ hole....it's funny!)  We come across some strange people in this sport.  Couldn't tell you why but my money is on the fact that he realizes your talents and when you can't beat them, join them right?  Have you ever backed someone??  I have, but only when I'm not bowling, but when the ball's in my hand, I'm betting on ME.  I'd take it as a compliment bud....sorry to say but he may even be that dumb not to realize what he just did...that's if he continues being snobbish or all high and mighty to you.  Have fun with it....he's bowing down to YOU.
