League payout - competitive scratch
« on: July 27, 2018, 04:26:38 PM »
Looking for some thoughts and opinions here. If you were running a competitive scratch trio league where it's understood it's top heavy and not Mickey Mouse everyone gets the same at the end league. Say it comes out to $600 per person for a 30 week league.

Is it wrong to think first should pay at least $1200 per person, second $900, and third $600? I personally would view it as a very long competitive tournament, and who enters a tournament without being able to at least double their investment if winning it all?

I agree, if you win, you WIN. Everyone doesn't deserve a participation reward in my opinion.

Instead of the overall winner take all model, perhaps you have winners of each quarter gets a payout and then final place from a roll-off.

That's how our high level scratch league works. The season is broken up into thirds and winning a third gets the team(trios) $1000. Then the three third winners and the highest point winner of the non-winners have a roll off on sweeper night with the four positions being paid.

Everyone else is bowling for sweeper money.

I like that model. It doesn't help when the house is taking 65% in lineage each week.

Do I understand correctly:  the 4 playoff teams are in a seprate bracket/sweeper and the remainder are in their own sweeper?  or is the sweeper all the teams and the 4 playoff teams the only ones that matter for the playoff prize fund?

Our league is handicap. Our play off is as follows.  We have 4 play off positions available.  The league is divided into 4 brackets.  The first three brackets go to the teams who win the brackets while our fourth place bracket winner is the team with the most over all wins that did not win one of the first three brackets.  The rest of the league bowl for position money depending on where they finish 5 through 32.
I do not know how much you pay for bowling.  We pay 24.00 a night.  The first place team this last season won 800.00 divided between 5 bowlers.  I understand that there are lineage fees and secretary fee etc.  The secretary is paid $2500.00 for collecting the money and paying the center.  Unfortunately our secretary is a good friend but she goes to Las Vegas when the first snow hits our town and will be gone for two to three months. Just remember bowling is fun but it may not be fair.

While in handicap casual leagues, I prefer the more .... participatory  distribution of the funds, in a true, no limit scratch league you should probably, to take your basic assumption to the same limit, pay only 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, in a distribution something like, 50% for first, 30% for second and 20% for third of the total prize fund. That's for 10 teams. If you had 25 teams, maybe you should pay out 5 places.

This is also assuming no team entry limit. True 100% scratch.

Everyone is in the same sweeper pool. The four teams in the roll off are bowling for place money as well. Each team of the four bowl one game against the other three teams. Final position is determined by total points won that night.
