League President
« on: August 04, 2009, 02:54:45 AM »
I see a potential problem with our league president. He's a dictator. The first officers meeting for our league was scheduled for today. Since the bowling alley offered league officers a fun night last night and most of my league officers where there he decided to hold an impromptu meeting. I wasn't there. He appointed two more sergeant at arms and said they will need to get payed the fee assigned to the person in there position. He did this without a vote, which I think is needed in this case and most cases. Without going into a long spill, there have been complaints about how the league been run for a while now. Myself, who is the V.P. and the treasurer are new. We have concerns already and the season hasn't even started. I think he had some of the out going officers in his back pocket. I'm not for any foul stuff and I think he knows it. I want to be prepared just in case things get ugly. How hard is it to impeach the president?

I believe impeaching the league president procedures are in the USBC league rules or league operations.  You can find them on bowl.com.

You and the other officers should just take him out behind the bowling alley and shove an old bowling pin where the sun don't shine.  He'll soon cease his dictatorial ways!

What I would first do is look at the USBC League manual (which is available on bowl.com) and your league by-laws.  Then I would gather all your league officers (not including the league president) and all the members of your league and get them to vote on impeaching the league president.  Depending on how your league by-laws are written, if you have a majority of your league members that vote in favor of the impeachment, then you can proceed with implementing the impeachment.  Importantly, you will want to get the league president off of the account that holds your league's money.

I've read the rules that are on bowl.com. I believe it is rule 115a. It seems that everything goes through the President, kind of like they don't apply to him. I know they do, but it will be hard going around him. I have to check our league bylaws. I like dpunky's idea. It sort of jives with my own. We'll see its going to be a long season. Thanks

Usually league officers are elected at the league meeting, which probably hasn't been held yet.  Find a strong candidate to run against him.  --  JohnP

Try sending an email to the Rules Department at USBC. They're usually pretty good with responding within 24-48 hours..
