If I'm going to get a couple urethanes....
« on: January 30, 2004, 10:43:12 PM »
What would be the best way to go, do you think?  I'm gradually over the next few year or so going to switch back to 16lb. stuff, and I think that two urethanes are a good thing to have.  That being said...

I'm wondering what all you think would be the best way to go.  There are of course several choices, and am kind of wondering about what is the best way to go.

What would you pick?

Black Messenger (only 2-piece besides BuzzsawXXL.  I have the 15 lb. and it's great.  Plus, I'm kind of partial to Columbia.)  Still made!

Buzzsaw XXL (loyal following but for $169???)

Stingray (Also big flaring ball from Columbia.  Cheap, easy to find.)

Fab Hammers (most expensive, but seem to be awesome)

or 3-pieces from various manufacturers, pretty much all the same.

What do you think would be the best choice?

Personally, I'd go with the two I own.  Storm Thunderflash and Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle.  If I went to a tournament like the Peterson (2 ball limit?) known for odd conditions, that's what I'd take.  The Thunderflash is a big flaring solid for medium to med/heavy oil.  The SBG is a mild pearl that still provides plenty of pop for the hook and price.  The Stingray from what I have read sounds similar to a Thunderflash.  A Blue Pearl Hammer or Pink Hammer (if you can find one) would be good light oil balls.

Storm Thunderflash and Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle. I used to use the Thunderflash Pro and it worked well. now I've switched to 15 from 16 and use the Gargoyle, which I find is actually a little bit better than the Thunderflash Pro.

if you decide on the hammers go to http://www.granprixtours.com/ and contact Reynold Blondin cause he has a partnership with mr.wonders, the former owner of faball, and can get you the best deals on hammers.
