league shot question on short oil
« on: April 23, 2005, 04:54:13 PM »
Right now I bowl in about 5 different houses a week.  I average around 210+ everywhere except 1 house.  This house has an IMO extremly difficult shot, i hold high average at 181 right now.  The shot is on new synthetics that get striped daily.  The house oils about 32 feet, then the rest is completely stripped.  The problem everyone is having is in the middle of the lane it seems to be pretty dry, and the outside is pretty wet.  If you try to swing anything it slides to far, and if you keep in between 2nd and 3rd arrow, it flies past the brookland side, and you only hope to get a pin count.  Some of the other bowlers agree that it is a type of reverse block pattern laid down, but it really doesn't play much like that cause the oil is so short.  Recently i bought a monster Slayr from Nodsleinad hopeing it would get me further down the lane and still have some hit.  Well it still hooks a ton.

The question I have if anyone knows what the minimum amount of units of oil needs to be on the lane.  I guess im just looking for some sort of idea on how to play these lanes.  Any ideas would be great.

The minimum requirements when it comes to oil is 3 units per board. Chances are if the house has installed new synthetics, they may have to take time with the oil machine to find the right method of oiling the lanes consistently. To me if they are hooking that much, I would be breaking out the pearlized urethane and/or plastic, because chances are even pearlized resin will be hooking out the building. Keep us posted on your endeavors.

Usually your two choices are deep inside or down the boards with an oil eater.  Try 4th or 5th arrow to take advantage of the lefty's head oil with something that can snap out the 10 from that deep, or something strong down 5 if your speed and launch angle are consistent.  When all else fails, plastic can still be your best friend.

I shot the City Tourney this weekend at this house.  We one Team with a large margin between first and second.  Shot singles and doubles today, and oh my dear god, i think the center forgot to put oil in the machine before oiling.  I started deep inside playing 4th arrow out to 3 board and back with my carbide bomb, speed was up over 19+mph consistantly and still went through the head quite a bit.  then switched to the monster slayr played between 3rd and 4th out to 6, and was able to score for about 13 frames, and then that went away.  Switched to my Cherry Bomb, and went strait up the back of the ball as to kill it.  Was very sucsessful doing this, and scored well, but left a ton of 10 pins.  Finished the tourney averaging just under 190.  The city champ won shooting 1801 scratch with a white dot playing fourth arrow out to about 6 board and back.  his speed was around 16mph.  I tried playing plastic, but i keep my boogie extremely shiney and it would not move an inch even when I slowed down my speed.

Now I have shot short oil sport shot a few times, and haven't had too much of a problem how is it that this house can be that much of a problem.  We had over 15 people just not show up for doubles and singles after team.  They said the shot was rediculous and refused to shoot anymore.  I don't mind a tough shot or one that makes you stay true, but this is rediculous.  Any sugestions on how to convince the center manager to put out more oil?  This guy is such a moron.  Just got synthetic lanes, but refuses to change the from the type of oil he was using on his wood lanes.  I asked him to oil past 32 feet or for more units, he said that he wouldn't because then it starts creating lane problems with the ball returns.  I just don't know what else to do as far as trying to get him to adjust the oil pattern so he can acomidate both the bowlers and the house.

Thanks for all the input guys, ill keep trying any new suggestions that come up, hopefully someone has run across something similar that will work.  IM pretty versitile so ill try anything.  I was even playing the ole loft shot for a while today, worked great, but couldn't quite get the same bounce twice
