Hello, I live in Texas and if there is a little snow or ice the leagues will not bowl and even if the roads are still drive able. It really sucks. The bowling alleys usually remain open unless there is a thick layer of ice on the parking lots along with the roads.

I'm curious what do people do likein Ohio, Colorado, New York..Wisconsin do? If the weather has some ice or snow of the roads is your league cancelled? Or to people just deal with it and have the will and the measures to ensure the roads and parking lots are safer and leagues continue and the bowling alleys are open?

I'm sure obviously if it's a hardcore blizzard then leagues may be cancelled but I am wondering on a average winter storm where you live. Otherwise many people would not be bowling on a weekly basis during fall/winter leagues.

We lived in Bloomington, Illinois for 8 years, and I bowled in a couple of leagues at Pheasant Lanes. We may have had a couple of cancellations at most during that time. We generally had good attendance despite during times of bad weather.

i bowl in Appleton and Oshkosh WI and we bowl regardless of weather.

We leave it to the leagues to cancel as we will be open for business reguardless..  However, if the leagues do cancel, I will still usually close a little earlier than normal.  The leagues are under contract to complete 30 weeks so if they want to skip, they will just go longer into the summer.  We have only had a few cancellations over the last few years that I can remember and it was snowing all day/all night long and no plows were on the roads.  Visibility was low and traction on the roads was terrible..

In Buffalo, we just throw our bowling bags on top of our snowmobiles and make it regardless of how bad the snow gets.

All reality, it's rare to see a league cancelled.  The only times I can think of it happening is if we are getting a storm that is insane by our standards (7 feet of snow over 2 days back in 2000 is one example where people were stranded).

I live in Texas also (and have lived in Denver) and there is a HUGE difference between snow on the streets and ice on the streets.  I can drive in snow but will not drive on ice.  Texas doesn't get much snow or ice, at least not like they have seen recently.  The drivers here aren't typically prepared for severe winter weather since they really never see it.  No chains, no winter driving skills and at times no common sense.  This recent storm left some areas with 2+ inches of ice on the roads.  Sorry, not leaving my house for that.  To many idiots on the roads.
