Learned a new trick...
« on: September 12, 2005, 12:39:16 PM »
I've been reading a bunch of bowling related books lately that my father-in-law has collected over the years. Alot of these books say the same things over and over, but one book mentioned something that none of the others have (so far...I am not yet half way through the stack!).

"The secret to maintaining wrist position during the approach lies in the index finger". Fred Borden (The Bowling Secrets of the Big-Money Pros)

I have a fairly weak wrist, so it is hard for me to cup the ball. I tried throwing the other night after reading this, and it does work. Cup the wrist, and press the index finger against the ball. This somehow locks the wirst in place. This may be well known to some, but I had never heard it before. Just thought I'd share. Those looking for revs may appreciate it.

Isn't Danny Wisemann (spelling?) well known for this?

Sure. Let the index finger support the ball weight in the swing, it takes away lots of the pressure on the wrist and helps with a clean thumb exit from the ball.

Additionally, spreading away your index finger from your hand creates more revs on the ball, while putting it next to the middle finger reduces hook and gives length (nice for dry lanes and attacks to right side multiple spare leaves like the 2-9 or 2-6-10 etc.).

Some more info about what to do with your fingers (JUST on the ball) can be found at http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/tip11.htm
