Tim Mack and Jason Belemonte PBA???
« on: November 28, 2007, 01:44:35 PM »
I hear a lot of talk about how great Tim Mack and Jason Belmonte are.  Why don't these guys try a shot at the PBA?  Does anyone know why they don't?

Maybe because no one likes a pay cut

Timmy has been there and done that, i think he will not be back anytime soon on the PBA tour. Professional amateur is making him a good living still, he is also a Storm sales rep i doubt he is hurting for money any.

Jason is also a paid Storm staffer and making good money bowling amateur, he might go out someday but why hurry if you make more money than all but the top 10 money earners on tour.

Like DP3 said, no one likes a paycut...which is sarcastic, but kinda true.

Mack tried the Tour and, though injured around that time, didn't have much success.

As for Belmo, check out his interview with BJI a few issues back (he's on the cover). It should explain all. Basically, though, he makes plenty good money, is going to be engaged soon, lives in Australia (and would have to relocate so as to not incur ridiculous travel costs, etc.), and doesn't yet feel he could compete week-in, week-out at that level (in reality, I think what he means is, have a legit shot of winning each week, like a PDW, Walter, Norm, TJ, Barnes, etc...he doesn't want to be the second-tier PBA player like Oatman, Criss, et al).

Those guys bowling as amateurs can make more money than on tour. However, to beat the best they have to bowl the best... the tour.

The PBA is a joke money wise.

I spoke with Tim.

You'll be surprised to know that he's been talking a LOT about going back to the PBA.  Looks like it's in the near future.

I think Tim is just waiting to be confident in his shoulder holding up, Mainly with that many games.

Jason has said he loves the US but he doesn't want to live here. He is probably going to wait until he believes that there will be stability and financial security. He has said he is intending on bowling the U.S. Open this year. His results will probably play a big role in his decision. I believe he also just got married so I'm sure his wife will have a big say.

Overall, I expect to see Tim's name at Tour Trials this year and Jason's in 2 or 3 years.

No doubt that the guys on the Tour are good.. Some are even great.. But from speaking to a lot of PBA-pros who've been over here to bowl our big tournaments.. All of them have said that the top bowlers in the world are the Europeans.. Also according to the guys i've talked to, we bowl on tougher conditions than what's on Tour..

And yes they can make a lot of money as amateurs..
