Backswing help needed
« on: February 11, 2007, 01:35:18 AM »
I just watched tape of myself for the first time in about a year and noticed while experimenting with opening up the lane on the Cheetah pattern, my front swing is in line, but my backswing goes slighty off line towards my back, then out towards my target.

This does NOT happen when I play a straighter shot.

I'm viewing this as a flaw, and will attempt to work it out.

What approach should I take to correct this, and at what point in my swing should the ball be projected out towards my target?

When I played straighter (A Game) on Cheetah, I was lights out, but when I had to open things up (B Game), I wasnt consistent in shot making, I think this backswing flaw has something to do with it.

Thanks

Eric

Are you turning your body to face your target when you "open" up the lanes?

in looking at the video again, its not as bad as it looks in my mind from thinking about it overnight.

But I am "clearing my hips" which for me, is not a good thing to do, I rely on the same mechanics every shot to give me the confidence that I know whats going on, on the lane.

In clearing my hips, yes im turning towards the target on the return swing.

I need to get it straightened out, or im going to be a mess when I need to migrate on these PBA patterns ive been bowling on lately.

What I was eluding to, and I apologize for not being more clear, was how I set myself up on the approach.  Then again my method may not be the most sound either.

When I'm playing in my feet point out... when I'm playing down the lanes my feet are more parallel to the lanes.  Even though I point my feet in, out, and down I still end up on the board my left foot started on, or slightly to the left.

I attended a Fred Borden/Jeri Edwards seminar locally this past Friday and Mr. Borden made it clear that the ball should stay on a 4" groove and should pass close to the body on the forward swing.  (I may have that last part wrong, looks like I left my notes in the bag that I leave at the alley)
