Lefty bowling vid advice?
« on: February 06, 2014, 01:22:49 PM »
Most bowling videos feature righthanded bowlers.  Maybe it's just so normal that watching lefty videos seems to be inferior, or for some reason not as helpful.  Or maybe I'm just weird, but I don't feel like I get as much out of a video or get as good a read on the ball if I'm watching a lefty.  Ball motion IS different on the left side of the lane just because it doesn't get the wear and tear the right side does, but does anyone else share a preference for watching videos featuring a righthanded bowler?

I'm going to start doing ball videos, but they will all be from the left side.  To make them the best they can be, does anyone have any suggestions?  Most lefty videos I've seen don't offer a very good angle.  For some reason they're much further off to the side, and I don't really like that.  What height do you guys like?  Head level, waist level, or lane level?  I have a 72 inch tripod on the way, so I should be able to get whatever view I want.  Do you prefer videos that feature the full approach of the bowler, or just the ball on the lane?  Or I guess basically what do you all like to see out of ball videos?
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Righty video, hmmmm only like watching Belmo and Pete Weber.  So much free hook for the rest of em.

I get so much more out of watching the elegants like Parker Bohn and Dave Davis cover boards in the back where there is a lot of au jus on the way.

To each, his own!

REgards,

PS just kidding there are some righties I like watching!

Since, in the general population of bowlers lefties are 8% of the total so it follows put 8% of the total volume on the left side....you will see some lefty bowlers very deep with 8% of the total volume on the lane.   ;)

BTW...I have never considered symmetrical R/W/B patterns in a fair sense for ALL bowlers.

Put 8% on the left and let's see ya bowl in your vids Giz.   ;D

Ok, thanks.  Yeah I watch every Hammer vid that comes out, but Les always seems to have a different go with the balls than the rest of them do.  They all throw older balls for comparison, but Les never gets the same difference the rest of them do.

I might do a video illustrating some differences . . at least on our shot.  I imagine the experience is similar everywhere else, but the left side is several boards tighter laterally.  You don't have near the miss room left to right, but the reaction is crisper and cleaner on the left side, and the carry percentage seems to be higher because of that.  On the right side, you have a lot more lateral room to get to the pocket, but reaction can be lazier, and the carry percentage falls.  Reaction wise, I prefer bowling on the left side.
