Coaching question – Alignment and moving!

Coaching question – Alignment and moving! The question has to do with move or not to move.  If you are lined up and continuing to push or pull shots should you try to correct your bad delivery or adjust for who you are today?  I believe that we are a new person every day and that we adjust for what we have at the moment.  If not we burn frames all day trying to fix the problem.  Your thoughts are appreciated. Denny O’Neill, Lake Orion High School Bowing Coach

I tend to go with what I have on any given day. Some days we just feel better than others, whether it be mental or physical. Granted pushing and pulling shots is not ideal and obviously the bowlers game needs work, but working on ones game during competition is not desirable in my book.

The first thing is to check is the arm swing going back and forward. If it is a problem then correct that before making any movements with the feet. If there is no issues with arm swing then do the latter part.But if that is still a problem then the other issue is how the person look at the target.What I mean is the eyes by looking at a target and throwing the ball one or two boards different. Which in turn means that one of our eyes is dominate over other. Also a other one is keeping the head steady.

Thank you for this post, as lately I have had all kinds of issues with my arm swing and adjustments.

Seems like I make an adjustment, but still have an issue making shots.

Just to settle myself down I have gone to throwing my plastic ball, just to get my swing back. 

Once I feel comfortable again, I go back to throwing my aggressive balls.

You MUST fix the flaw in the swing.  How can you align yourself counting on repeating a flaw in the same manner.  There are many drills available on line to show your kids on how to properly start a bowling swing and not muscle it.  Correct the flaws and muscling the swing, then teach alignment.  What happens if they adjust for the flaw then don't push it or pull it?  You're in the same boat.  In addition, pulling or pushing the ball means they are losing leverage at the line and are losing revs and power.  Another reason to fix the flaws first.

Depends on the individual and the situation.  If the bowler is not consistent then making adjustments for the day is a battle.  You always make minor adjustments for the day regardless but having a good solid game in the first place is key.  Without a good solid game adjusting gets confusing.  Adjusting off a problem instead of correcting the problem creates more problems.
