Length, length, and more length possibly needed
« on: October 24, 2016, 12:34:50 PM »
I'm thinking I need a ball that gets more length before it starts hooking. My Forza hooks too early, to the point I can't keep it from going heavy. My sanded ride is a great benchmark for me right now so I hate to change the surface. I'm wondering if a mid strength ball with a ton of length would hook up late enough but generate enough angle to carry the corners on my current shot. Thoughts? Possible balls to consider? Really looking at a street fight, but I haven't seen one in action yet

If your using a sanded ride as a bench mark ball the Street Fights probably too much unless your standing way right with it and really want to move inside. I really like the Brunswick Fanatic for this purpose myself. The cover on the fights is really strong I think even with the High Rg its still going to start to early for you.

Before anyone can give you a true choice of equipment, it would help if you provide what conditions you bowl on, as well as your stats to also determine what options will fit best.

I agree; my friend's Street Fight is earlier than some of his sanded solids.
I'd suggest looking at a Hy_wire or a Venom Cobra, as the Forza, if mine is any gauge of what you're going through with yours, is for a good deal of oil.

45' of light to medium light oil. Old wood lanes with a synthetic guardian on the front 15. I throw maybe 17-18 mph off the hand and guessing 300-350 revs. I start off with the ride about 16-17 at the arrows with a breakpoint around 7-10

Really I'm looking for something new to add to the back. When the ride matches up to the shot, it is money. And I want the Forza to stay where it is in case I see more oil one night. Shot isn't always predictable week to week.

Fanatic BTU?  Should be a nice light oil piece, but give a smoother motion.

If you are looking for more downlane motion, Loco Pearls really move on the backend (but need dry).

Thanks for providing that info..... I agree with the above post....  The BTU should almost perfectly fit what your looking for,  especially on the conditions you described.

Good luck.

Are you Yanking my chain Big Time??
The Forza is like 3 full steps above the BTU in oil handling and hook. If the Forza is just hooking too much or too early that are at least 2 full steps weaker you can go before he'll need a BTU!!!
Unless he isn't telling us all about his Forza; mine is a true medium-heavy oil ball, while the BTU handle medium-light oil at best.

I was think more about a step or two below the Ride...not necessarily below the Forza...

Acknowledged.
The only balls I have below my Ride are the Tropical Breeze, now Tropical Storm Hybrid and my Strike King.

So you have a Forza that can handle significant amounts of oil.  You don't want to mess with the cover since you feel it has its place as is.  You also have a sanded Ride that is your benchmark ball.  You want something that is stronger than the Ride and weaker than the Forza and you want something with length to get through the heads.  I hope I am understanding you correctly.

The Forza is one of the earliest and smoothest balls I have seen.  It is also pretty strong.  The Ride (sanded) is significantly weaker than the Forza.  Having it sanded (not sure to what surface) will probably make it stronger and of course earlier and smoother.  If all you wanted was more length to compliment the Ride, I would almost suggest another Ride with OOB and perhaps a different drill.

But I like to go to a stronger ball when I have to move in.  It will ensure I have enough ball to make the turn.  Too many times I see bowlers go to a weaker ball that puts them back where they were on the lane.  Unfortunately, you have just depleted all of the oil there and that line will not last long.

So I would think something in between the strength of the Forza and Ride.  If you are interested in Motiv, I think the Venom Cobra or Venom Shock with some surface adjustments would be great.  If you are looking at Storm, then I feel the original HyRoad or the Match Pearl, depending on how much stronger you want to go.

As stated above, I would be weary of traditional skid/snap balls like the HyRoad Pearl or the Sky Rocket or even the IQ Tour 30 from Storm or the Paranoia or Octane Burn from Motiv.  I feel the shape will be significantly different than what you are used to and might give you some problems with control.

I can't go stronger and move in. I have above ground ball returns. As it is, I brush the ball return with my leg by the end of second game, then I start trying to throw the ball through the back of the building. Urethane hooks too early. If I try to take hand out of the ball, it physically hurts my wrist. But If I keep my wrist cupped it feels great. The ride is sanded to a high grit (3-4k.)  how much weaker than the original ride is the joyride? I have the ride drilled for a little more pop in the back end
