What hooks more then a Cell?
« on: June 22, 2009, 07:27:38 AM »
I was asked this question recently when I was in a coaching session. Was throwing a Cell, hand sanded to 1000 Abralon, but with a few games on it so it wasn't looking super dull anymore. I was asked if I had anything that hooked more, which I didn't, but afterwards I was thinking of the question in the title. Any thoughts from the BR.com community?

P.S. I assume they meant overall hook, but not sure, as I said I thought about this after I had left the session and was downloading what was discussed and thinking about it in my mind.

P.P.S.  Sorry for the add, just want to add, I bowl a few PBA regionals so can we limit this to PBA approved equipment. If I do get something, I want to be able to use it at Regionals, so this removes something like Visionary AMB Particle, which may have been one answer to this.

Here are a couple of suggestions of what would hook more than The Cell.
1- The Virtual Gravity at 1000 abralon. I have 2 of these and both of them are totally sick.
2- The Dimension at 500 or 1000. Even though the Cell and Dimension seem to roll alike, and are thought to pretty much be the same idea as far as what the ball is supposed to do, they are not alike at all. I had both of these and when I threw the Cell it hooked but layed off in the backend, while the Dimension had more continuation through the pins.
3- The Rogue Cell seems to be strong to the point where I think that with the right surface and layout, it could actually outhook the original Cell.
4- Brunswick Maxx Zone. I saw my buddy throw this ball with a few different layouts on it and WOW! I started out throwing Brunswick, but then tried Storm and been shooting and scoring good so Storm is all I use now.
5- The Widow Bite. Some people might disagree with me on this one but my buddy throws this ball and let's just say that I am very impressed with this ball. Too bad its on the list of balls that is being discontinued!!

Well, I might even have a few more, but I would think you would only be allowed to use so much space per reply on here. LOL. Check out a couple of these and let me know what you think, and also what you have decided.

I have gotten to bowl on the Shark pattern plus the USBC shot, BJ, BTM and 123 tourneys in the last couple of weeks and the Cell is the best oil ball I've thrown. At oob it out digs the Rogue, Virtual and Siege and Maxx Zone. This does not meen that it out hooks them but just reads the pattern, makes it's move and carries. I have left only 3 ten pins in the last 40 games or so on a sport pattern.

Thanks for the responses. Let me answer or clarify based on the questions:

This was on the USBC shot at a different center. The Cell I was throwing was 1000 Abralon, but with about 20-30 games on it. It is drilled quite strong, pin under ring, CG kicked right a little, I believe we used a 75 deg total angle (but don't quote me on that one). It is usually a fine oil ball and I never had any questions, until the coach asked me this. It just got me to wondering, as I always considered the Cell to be one of the best oil balls for most people, myself included. I just wanted to get other's opinions on this.
