Ligament Problem - Ring Finger
« on: February 19, 2005, 09:43:23 PM »
Hi – My sister-in-law hurt her right ring finger ligament with an over extension on a shot a few weeks ago.  She loves to bowl, is right handed, and carries a 180 average, a stroker, with moderate ball speed.   She is a track to an outside line player.  She throws 15 pound equipment.  She is in physical therapy to help heal the ligament.  She is thinking about having a “Pinky” hole drilled into her ball so that she can get back on the lanes.   The idea is to insert the middle finger and the pinky into the ball and leave the ring finger out to the ball.  Or insert all three fingers into the ball. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Regards – Denny

Sounds a bit dangerous to the finger , I'd have her ask her therapist if that would 'pull' the ligament. It would work, but sure sounds like she may do more danage to the finger.

my 2 cents are up

If she's going to go with the pinky hole, tell her to also put the ring finger in the ball - but with a slightly shorter span.

I tore the joint cap in my ring finger several years ago. I didn't bowl for 6 weeks. Afterwards, I started wearing a wrist brace - the kind that braces ONLY the back of the wrist - for added support, so the fingers didn't have to carry so much weight by themselves. Worked wonders.
