Lighter Spare Ball

So many of the guys I bowl with will have their plastic spare ball anywhere from 12-14 lbs when they are throwing 15 or 16.  Is this a common thing?  I currently throw 16 and my spare ball is the same.  I am in the market for a new spare ball but may just stick with what I know and not worry about messing up my timing.  So what is the consensus do you have the same weight or lighter?

i throw 15lbs have some 16lbs. but for spares i throw 14lbs just so i can get alittle more speed without trying.

If you do go with a lighter spare ball, make sure not to go too light. I'd only go about a pound lighter. Otherwise it can really screw you up on your spare shooting, I've seen it happen a few times. Its much easier to pull a lighter ball.

i throw 14 lb spare ball. tried a 12 lb but i was way to light. LOL

i throw 14lb blue dot and 15lb everything else.  as stated before, more speed without any extra effort.  another benefit is the 3 ball bag with two 15's and a 14 is well under the weight restrictions for checking in when flying.  normally bag with 3 15's is right there at the 50lb limit.

I use a 14lb spare while my strike stuff is 15.  Gets better deflection for baby splits

The only problem with a lighter spare ball is that if you keep your release the same, you will have tendency to rev the ball a bit more with the lower weight.  I wanted one for more speed so I could just let it go, but ended up getting more hook out of it because it was so much easier to hold on to at the bottom

Strike balls are 15# and my spare ball is 13#.  The only spares I use the strike ball on are the 'sleeper' variety because of the deflection of the lighter ball which is usually a helpful thing on baby splits and clotheslines.

Strike balls are 15 & 16, my right side spare ball is 16 Storm Logo viz-a polyester. (I'm right handed)  If I didn't have that I'd have to throw something w/no back end & hard down the lane.  Like I used to do & missed a ton of spares that way, LoL.  I use my normal release & even if I grab it a little it doesn't move hardly at all.  I still use my strike balls for left side spares though.

I throw 15er's an tried 14lbs. once,thru off my timing alittle so I stick with 15ing's

I throw 15 pounders for strike, but my spare plastic ball is 12lbs. drilled conventional, just need to practice and  get used to.
