I Need Some Help
« on: November 01, 2006, 11:04:42 AM »
I am looking for the best ball on dry lane conditions. Which ball would be best for that situation? Here is a list of some of the balls I was considering.

Hammer

Blue Vibe
Purple Vibe

Ebonite

Smash Time
Whirl Wind
Tornado Warning Sanded

Those are the ones I'm considering. I'm kinda leaning towards the Blue Vibe because I love Hammer.

I want to know what ball you guys think would be best. Do you guys think I should get one of the balls from the ones I listed, or should I get a ball that is not listed?

Anyway just whatever ball you guys think is best for dry lane conditions.

A profile would help so we know whether you throw hard or soft, what your rev rate is...  Also, what are you throwing now that is too much ball?  Is it just a little too much ball, or is it hooking in the heads and rolling out in the mid lane?  It might help us understand what your definition of dry is.

The Vibes are probably good ideas.  I personally wouldn't consider any of the Ebonites you named as dry lane balls.  Also, look at the first several pages of the Miscellaneous forum or do a search.  There have been several "dry lane ball" posts over the last week.  They may help give you some ideas.

if your going Ebonite i would go with a Tornado Warning Pearl but remember that ball has really no core just a Traditional 3-piece pancake core which isn't going to hit hard if it catches oil, it really needs dry to make it work, the result is sometimes a 10 pin for Righties or 7 for lefties. I know this personally i have a tornado warnings i use for dry lanes and it will sometimes get the 10's but at least i am in the pocket is how i look at it. . The Tornado has a Full size pancake with offset, high tech flip block which will help you carry 10 pins or 7 pins alittle more.

I have heard people say great things about the XXL ball that it is great on dry and carries also cause of the core it has.

If you talk about really dry conditions without head oil, I'd also throw the Slate Blue Gargoyle from Visionary into the discussion. Very weak pearl cover, but a "real" core which stabilizes the ball and makes it roll in the back end. Allergic to any oil, but a great solution for dry turf.

Another nice ball, if there is some light oil left, is the Power Groove Dry/R. Smooth reactive, nice.

And, finally, consider the Pure Hammer (either the burgundy or older black one) for light oil conditions. They are probably not weak enough for dry lanes (due to the low RG), but easy to control if there is some head oil to play with.

The two balls I currently throw are The Ebonite V2 Strong/R and The Doom Raw Hammer. I'd say abouot the past 5 weeks I have been standing with my left foot about even wiht the edge of the left gutter and I throw both balls about center arrow and sometimes that balls work but lately they have been going either through the nose or brooklin. I like to throw straighter. I do throw one of the biggest hooks in the league. I do rev the ball a bit but I never payed attention to how many revs I put on it. If you guys need anymore info let me know
