A bittersweet night for me...venting...long
« on: March 23, 2004, 01:21:12 PM »
I posted in another forum that last week I had shot my 2nd sanctioned 300 with my Uranium.  Well tonight I shot my 3rd.  There were some differences though.  My game last week was pretty much flawless.  Every ball flush, 10 in the pit, except for the first one in the 10th.  I was fortunate and the 6 kicked out the 10.  Felt like I bowled good.  Tonight I was uncomfortable with my fingers from the start.  About the 5th frame I had enough, and put some tape in, but still was not incredibly accurate.  The 12th ball is what gets me.  It was AWFUL, and I can't blame it on anything except poor execution on my part.  I was not nervous, the ball fit fine, I just tugged the snot out of it, went high brooklyn, and carried it.  Everyone was excited, but I knew that I did not deserve it.  As good as it felt last week, tonights game I just couldn't really get excited over knowing that I threw a lousy ball in the 12th.  But hey, I know I was fortunate, and 2 300's in a week is something that most never do, and something I will probably never do again.

I bowl with my father in this particular league.  To make a long story a little less long, he had a pair of 200's going into the 10th frame of the last game.  He needed to strike, then have a 7-miss for a triplicate.  We were way up in the game, so the other team encouraged him to go for it if he got the strike.  He did, and got his 7 count and missed it purposely to the right.  Everyone got a good laugh out of it, except for a team we were bowling next to.  They were complaining that what he did "wasn't right".  I don't have much more to say on that, other than I'm sure people could find something more to worry about than 3 pins on a series with 3 weeks to go in a season.

Then the topper of the night.  After everyone was packing up and ready to go home, the league secretary approached me.  He handed me a piece of paper and proceeded to explain to me that we had used an illegal sub, and that his scores would not count.  I asked him if we were able to use our absent bowler's average minus 10 pins, and he said yes.  We had indeed used an illegal sub, although I was not aware of it until he pointed it out to me.  I did not argue the point with him, as there was nothing to argue about.  I recalculated the scores, and everything was then in order.  My issue with this is, why did he not tell me at the beginning of the night?  His teammates told me that they knew of the issue, but didn't want to get involved.  The protest came from the 1st place team, but none of those guys said a word to me.  We are in 2nd, and points are critical right now.  The team we bowled did not think it was right that they waited till after the set to tell me either, but they are actually more upset with it than me and my teammates are.  I just think issues such as those should be taken care of at the beginning of the night when everything can be solved right away.  If you read this far, thanks.

Hey Don,

Congrats on the tre still, makes up for those stone 8, 279's.  In regards to your other issue, not exactly sure when protests must be filed.  I suggest contacting ABC in regards to this matter.  I thought they could be filed at the end of the league night to maybe ensure the team being protested doesn't try to sandbag or something to that effect.  It would be pretty hard to prove though when a team actually says when they acknowledged there was a problem...
