Local Man shoots A Sanctioned 900
« on: January 08, 2011, 02:40:11 PM »
Bob Kammer Jr. of Merrillville, Indiana shoots a perfect 900. This is now the 19th sanctioned 900 (I believe). Was thrown earlier tonight at Stardust Bowl II in Merrillville, IN.

He is one of the well known bowlers in the area. What would you do after shooting this? Personally... I told myself that if I would ever throw the golden 900 I would retire from the game.

No matter how dark the area around you gets... Never take your eyes off the match you lit.

I would switch hands, since this would be the ultimate 1 night goal, why not try with the opposite hand?

No matter how hard you try/practice it takes alot of skill or luck (not bashing), there are always machines laying down the pins and to carry that many shots is unreal regardless of the shot. Congrats to him!

No doubt it is great bowling. I'm not a big fan of how many 900s are being shot in the past 15 years(or year for that matter) compared to the previous 100+.

It is similar to baseball during the roid era. Home runs stay in the 40s and sometimes 50s, then 60 was being passed on a regular basis. Now roids are much less and the numbers have come back down drastically.

That being said to shoot 800 what is the minimum number of strikes needed? (28, 29) From that perspective if say 29 is the minimum then an additional 7 isn't/shouldn't be completely impossible. It is a tough call to argue, but great bowling none the less.

Be good, or be good at it.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Not surprised at all. January seems to be a good month for him. Look at his scores from last year per bowl.com.

congrats to him.  i still don't see how its possible. i am ave 219 at 2 leagues and sooner or later i always leave that bucking 10 pin, or 7 or 8. etc.  i understand people will say the strength of the balls is whats doing it. that can go two ways, sometimes they are too powerful, because most of the time im getting either tapped or robbed out of a great shot. so anyone who can either be good or lucky enough to do this is awesome. great job!

When I tossed my 803 I had 32 of 36 possible strikes.  I open frame (2nd frame of 3rd game).  Ran the last 10 for 803.

I would say bare minimum strikes is 25.

If you start the night with the first 23 strikes (you have 300-299 for the beginning 2 games)...toss the first 2 strikes in game 3 and then 9 spare all the way out you have a 201 game.  So I will guess 25 is the MINIMUM number to have 800 EXACTLY.

You could do it with 24.

X X X X X X X X 9/ 9/ 9 gives you 267, just do it three times.

Ive bowled next to him in a tourney recently, and from what saw, he could do it.  It was a tourney I was struggling in, and he had the tools in his game to adjust, and make it look stupid easy once he foumd it, kammer jr. is gooooood.

It also is the new state record, the previous was 890 shot by lou gorcos at city lanes, in michigan city, indiana (my home center).

so that is what 4 or 5 , 900's for this bowling season??????

now i do have " stardust " friended on facebook and i swear on the bible, its not rare for they to pump out 300's like its thier job......since they tend to post up vids of all of the 300's bowled there.......

I did comment once about a month or so ago, cuz they had stated for the season, they already had 32 - 300's bowled....  and some of the vids, were almost laughable..... sorry to say....

for the fact, the house I bowl in, i believe has had " 1 " 300 bowled so far........ and No 800's

stardust2 is a very easy house shot, I dont bowl there regularly but I did have a 299 (big deal I know), but to carry all 36 is still an acheivement....lets not forget that.  The shot flat out hooks thats about all I remember, I like the place too, theres no b.s. ever at stardustun like my centers, cuz thats the local trend from where im from, in laporte county.

I wouldn't jumping his back either, odds are he did it infront of a packed 64 lane house, haha not prebowled, like musthare.

Proud to say indiana got one.

Stardust is a wood center that has a lot of friction when you do get to the dry. It is one of the 3 top scoring centers in the area (along with Olympia Lanes and Plaza Lanes. There are also a lot of scores because it is a well run 48 lane center that is full every night with quality bowlers. The manager is a solid 225+ bowler so he stays on top of the place.
Congratulations to Bob! He's been one of the top bowlers in the area for a long time. Plus carrying 36 in a row there is an awesome feast as the ringing 10 tends to pop up a lot there a lot to stop streaks

I work at Stardust 3 which is the same one that has a facebook page that posts videos of 300's, etc. I am a somewhat decent bowler. Average around 225 on THS's and about 205 on sport patterns. The shot at SD3 isn't really easy. It's definitely not difficult by any means. But a lot of people think it's a cake walk just from seeing all the 300's that have been shot this year. The shot always breaks down early on the outside part of the lane and if you don't know how to adjust and when, you will easily see a normal 210 to 220 average bowler struggle to break 600 by the end of the night. Rev dominant bowlers like myself also tend to struggle more than speed dominant bowlers from time to time because the shot breaks down very quickly on the outside depending on who you're bowling with. And there is a puddle in the middle with a slight hang spot that will cause a washout or 2-8-10. So there is an area out there where if you get it outside too quickly the ball will jump early and go thru the beak and if you miss slightly inside the ball will just hang. And if some people think the shot may be too easy. Come on out and try it for yourself. There have been quite a few not so terrific bowlers though this year that have shot 300's I will admit. But hey everyone has a good night every now and then.
